Today is May 28. russia's military attack on Ukraine has been going on for 94 days. We're reporting on the current news. The article will be constantly updated.

What about today?

Key points

Thirty thousand russian occupiers have died in Ukraine! We have eliminated 30,000! The enemy's total combat losses in Ukraine as of the morning of May 28:

війна

The war in Ukraine can end in a few weeks, Volodymyr Zelensky said. But there is one condition: "If the world is united and honest about this russian aggression against our state, we will measure the speed of ending this war in weeks, not even months."

But now, the end of the war is still far away. The russian occupying troops are conducting intense fire along the line of contact and in the depths of our troops' defense in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. The situation remains challenging, but according to Oleksandr Motuzianyk, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine control it and know about all the enemy's plans.

Ukrainian defenders continue to deter the aggressor in the area of responsibility of the East operational and tactical group. Over the past day, our soldiers destroyed:

  • personnel – up to 60
  • IFV – 1
  • APC – 1
  • artillery systems – 1
  • AT-T – 2

In the Donbas, along the line of defense, the enemy uses the entire available arsenal of ammunition. The occupiers fired on 49 settlements in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, destroying and killing people. Our soldiers from the Joint Forces repulsed eight enemy attacks. Fighting is still going on at 5 locations. During the day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped:

  • Five tanks;
  • Ten units of combat armored vehicles;
  • Four enemy motor vehicles (one of them with ammunition).

Air defense units shot down an Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle in the skies of the Ukrainian Donbas.

Following the results of the last 24 hours, two more enemy planes are struck:

  • Su-35 fighter aircraft;
  • Alligator Ka-52 combat helicopter.

The Ukrainian military pushed back the occupiers in the area of Sievierodonetsk, Toshkivka and Oskolonivka in the Luhansk region. In the Kherson region, soldiers of the Armed Forces moved the russians to unfavorable borders. The situation is similar in Bakhmut district in Donetsk region.

"We are defending our land as much as the current defense resource allows. And we're doing everything to strengthen it. If the occupiers think that the Lyman or Sievierodonetsk will be theirs, they are wrong. Donbas will be Ukrainian because that is its essence. And even if russia brings destruction and suffering everywhere, we will still rebuild every city and every community. And there's no alternative to the Ukrainian flag," said the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, summing up the 93rd day of the war.

94 день війни

russian president putin is not only seeking to take over Ukraine, he is literally trying to destroy the culture and identity of the Ukrainian people, US President Joe Biden said during a speech to this year's graduates of the US Naval Academy on May 27: "Attacks on schools! Maternity hospitals! Hospitals! Museums! There is no purpose other than the destruction of culture. A direct attack on the fundamental principles of international law and order." It is good that what Ukrainians have known for hundreds of years is beginning to reach the world community. The bad thing is that we pay a disproportionately high price for it.

Ukraine's talks with russia

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby notes that after three months of russian military invasion, putin has shown no desire to negotiate peace with Ukraine. Kirby also added that the Kremlin dictator had not yet achieved any strategic goal in the war with Ukraine. "He did not capture any large city [in the East], except Mariupol. Instead, he showed that he is ready to continue the war in Donbas: he continues to increase troops, gathers equipment, carries out airstrikes on smaller areas of Ukraine."

Who's coming to Ukraine?

Japan will provide Ukraine with firefighting equipment and telecommunications equipment for our rescuers in the combat zone. They plan to send 25 various items of equipment: about 1,300 sets of fire suits, 50 hydraulic jacks, 150 stretchers, and 25 satellite mobile phones.

Switzerland has provided more than 5.5 million francs in humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The humanitarian goods consisted of flour, sunflower oil, buckwheat, corn and semolina, sugar, salt, canned meat and vegetables.

News from partners

The Czech Republic and Slovakia's defense ministers have denied reports that a NATO agreement would not allow some Allied heavy weapons to be supplied to Ukraine. Earlier the media reported that NATO unofficially agreed not to provide Ukraine with Western infantry fighting vehicles and tanks, fearing putin's reaction. Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová stressed that the Czech Republic would not support it even if such an agreement existed.

russian lies

In Mariupol, the occupiers are handing out newspapers that the DPR allegedly took the city without destruction to save lives. The adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriushchenko, reported about it on Telegram. "In addition to installing TVs in Mariupol, the russian occupiers resumed the distribution of newspaper propaganda. They say that Mariupol is an example of how the russian military and the DPR surgically and without mass destruction took the city. To save lives. In the city where there are ruins and the morgue piled up corpses on the street in bulk. There is no limit to russian cynicism," Petro Andriushchenko said.

The aggressor country doesn't stop hankering about the mythical "bio laboratories." russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said that a whole network of US bio-labs had been spread around russia. The diplomat said the situation is similar on the borders with China and Africa.

The Bryansk media are spreading the word about the nuclear strike that Ukraine was allegedly preparing to inflict. It is reported that if russia had not started a war against Ukraine, Ukraine would have "used dirty bombs" to infect Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov-on-Don and Simferopol. Thus, the russian media justify the beginning of an aggressive war.

Donetsk and Luhansk regions

The Institute for the Study of War presented a new report:

  • russian troops are attacking residential areas of Sievierodonetsk, but the city is not yet surrounded.
  • russia's army in the Lyman attacks to support the stuck forces in Izium and to the southeast to advance on Siversk.
  • russian troops in Popasna seek to move north to keep the environs of Sievierodonetsk.

Why russia wants to capture Lyman, explained by British intelligence:

  • Lyman is a hub railway city with access to the significant railway and road bridges across the Siverskyi Donets River.
  • A bridgehead near the Lyman will give russia an advantage in the probable next phase of the offensive in the Donbas when it probably tries to move to critical Ukrainian cities deep into the Donetsk region.
  • If russia still manages to capture Donbas completely, the Kremlin is likely to see it as a significant political achievement and justify invading Ukrainian lands.

However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are conducting a well-organized defense of the sector and continue to inflict heavy losses on the russian side. The situation in the East is entirely under control.

The Artemsol enterprise in Soledar (near the front line) of the Donetsk region was hit. We will remind you that the enterprise stopped the work a month ago because of approaching fights. Because of the Artemsol shutdown, salt is now in short supply in Ukraine.
