Timeline: day 68 of Ukraine’s defense against russia’s aggression

Today is May 2. russia's military attack on Ukraine has been going on for 68 days. We're reporting on all the current news. The article will be constantly updated.

What about today?

Key points

In the liberated territories, both birds and humans are returning to the homes bombed by russians. According to the State Border Guard Service, the number of people who have returned to Ukraine from Europe in the past 24 hours is the highest since the beginning of the war. We will rebuild everything and restore everything. It is impossible to destroy Ukrainians and Ukraine. Will is our genetic code! Victory is ours!

And in the Donetsk and Luhansk directions, our defenders continue to defend the Ukrainian land. During the past 24 hours, the Joint Forces successfully repulsed 10 enemy attacks.

The righteous fire of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed:

  • 2 tanks
  • 17 artillery systems
  • 38 units of combat armored and
  • 10 units of enemy vehicles.

Air defense units shot down 7 unmanned aerial vehicles in the skies of the Ukrainian Donbas. In total, during the week, air defense units shot down 6 planes, 32 unmanned aerial vehicles, and 2 cruise missiles of the occupiers.

In the Black Sea, with the help of Ukrainian Bayraktars, two russian Raptor boats followed the Moscow cruiser to the bottom. It happened today at dawn near the Zmiinyi Island.

Minus 10 Orlan-10 UAVs are the result of the Ukrainian air defense on May 1. The goal is not simple, inconspicuous, but every day Ukrainian defenders of the sky from various means of destruction hit more and more of these UAVs.

Since the beginning of the russian attack, almost 24,000 occupiers have turned into soil!

Western artillery coming to Ukraine will change the war with russia, The Washington Post reports. If you pay attention to the number of destroyed artillery systems of the occupiers in the last 24 hours, you can still see significant progress. "Gifts from the West" are already starting to work.

British intelligence reports that russia has used about 65% of its total ground forces in Ukraine. A quarter of the forces are probably out of order. Some of russia's most elite units, including the Airborne Forces, have suffered the most. It will take Mordor years to rebuild these forces.

The petition for the introduction of a visa regime with russia on the website of the President of Ukraine received 25,000 votes; now it must be considered by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The petition was submitted on February 11 and has now been signed by 25,279 Ukrainians. The author of the petition proposes to introduce a visa regime for russian citizens entering the territory of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy published another photo of Ukrainian cities bombed by russia:

"Destroyed people's lives and burned or stolen property will give nothing to the occupiers. This will only increase the toxicity of the russian state and the number of those in the world who will work to isolate it," Zelenskyy commented on the photos.

Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said that Ukraine had given the first notice of suspicion of killing civilians to the russian military man. According to the Prosecutor General, the first suspect in the brutal civilian killings in Bucha was the commander of the russian National Guard, Sergei Kolotsei. A russian scumbag killed four people on March 18. He also tortured other civilians. Every occupier will have to answer for the crimes committed!

Humanitarian corridors

Yesterday, the occupiers began firing on Azovstal as soon as the evacuation of some Ukrainians was completed. This was announced by the commander of the 12th operational brigade of the National Guard Denys Schleha on the telethon. Before the evacuation, the russian aggressor adhered to the ceasefire for two days. Currently, there are about 200 civilians left at the enterprise, including 20 children, as well as more than 500 wounded soldiers; they are provided with medical care in very difficult conditions.

Today At 7 a.m. it is planned to continue the evacuation from Mariupol, to the territory controlled by Ukraine. The location for boarding evacuation buses is the Port City shopping center. The Mariupol City Council reports that two more places for boarding buses have been added: in Manhush and on the Lunacharske Ring near Berdiansk.

The UN and the Red Cross have confirmed that in Manhush and the Lunacharske ring people will be able to get on buses leaving Mariupol. One can also join the evacuation convoy on one's personal transport (at the end of the column).

12:00 – Evacuation buses with people left Mariupol, the adviser to the mayor, Petro Andriushchenko reports. The evacuation of people from Azovstal doesn't apply to the military, and the wounded.

14:00 – According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, residents of Mariupol, who left the besieged city yesterday in their personal vehicles, started arriving in Zaporizhzhia. People evacuated from Azovstal are expected in the regional center in a few hours.

22:00 – Mariupol City Council announced that tomorrow, May 3, the evacuation of civilians will take place with the support of the UN and the Red Cross. The gathering of people is scheduled for 7:00 am on the Lunacharske ring near Berdiansk.

Trophies of Ukrainian Armed Forces

A direct hit tore a ruscist colonel, Ovcharenko, to pieces. Now russia has one less colonel.

Ukraine's talks with russia

The issue of lifting Ukrainian sanctions in bilateral talks with russia has not been raised and cannot be raised. Only after the liberation of Ukraine is it correct to return to the issue of lifting sanctions, the President of Ukraine Zelenskyy said.

And Oleksii Danilov believes that there can be no peace treaty with russia, only the surrender of russia is possible. According to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council on the telethon, the war will not end quickly and the turning point has not yet taken place, but it will certainly take place, given the amount of aid coming to Ukraine.

Who's coming to Ukraine?

About financial aid, weapons, and volunteer fighters

Germany named the condition under which tanks will be supplied to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is still defending his position not to supply tanks to Ukraine. However, he doesn't deny that the equipment will be sent later, according to Bild am Sonntag. According to the Chancellor, he cannot be guided only by the rating in matters of war and peace. Scholz fears that a large-scale NATO war could break out with russia. However, he noted that Berlin could still authorize the supply of weapons requested by the Ukrainian leadership.

Colleagues from Germany handed over 16 units of special equipment to the rescuers of the Odesa region. In particular, the SES received fire and rescue vehicles, trucks and engineering equipment, buses, and other necessary equipment.

Denmark will provide Ukraine with weapons systems, as well as lead the reconstruction of Mykolaiv. During his visit to Kyiv, the Danish Foreign Minister also stated that his country had allocated more than 200 million euros to help Ukraine.

Ukraine has received almost half a billion euros from the World Bank fund; funds will be used to provide priority social, and humanitarian expenditures, as well as health care and support for internally displaced persons.

In addition, Ukraine received a grant of 495 million euros from the United States, Norway, and Austria, Finance Minister Marchenko said. Another $500 million grant support from the United States is being prepared in the near future.

Assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons

The Where You're Expected project was launched in Ukraine. It helps to evacuate, find housing and get help. On the newly created website, you can view the number of places that each region can offer for free resettlement, and find contact phone numbers to ask for help. At the stations in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Lozova, Ukrzaliznytsia railways staff will help Ukrainians with settlements and, together with local authorities, accompany newcomers to temporary housing.

News from partners

Hungary will veto EU sanctions on russian energy, Bloomberg reports. Due to this and other support of russia, the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban has already been included in the database of the Peacemaker website as an "accomplice of russian war criminals."

However, politicians are not always the same as the people. This is how Hungarians in Budapest support Ukraine:

Denmark and Sweden summon russian ambassadors after a russian plane violates their airspace. "The russian ambassador will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow. Another violation of Danish airspace by russia. This is absolutely unacceptable and extremely alarming in the current situation," said Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod. The Swedish Foreign Ministry also announced that the russian ambassador would be summoned to Stockholm.

Meanwhile, Finland plans to start building fences on the border with Russia. This was stated by the Commander of the Border Guard of North Karelia Marko Turunen. "This is an important decision to start building fences on the eastern border, or in key areas, or to cover most of the border."

The other day, another russia's supporter literally "opened his eyes." Czech President Zeman has said that an attack on Ukraine would destroy russia, and the russians were behaving like crazy. Miloš Zeman, previously known for his positive attitude towards Moscow, apologized for the statements he made before russia's full-scale invasion. "I changed my mind because I'm not an idiot. I changed my mind based on the real situation," he said.

Angelina Jolie communicates freely with IDPs in Lviv. And US First Lady Jill Biden is set to visit Romania and Slovakia to support Ukrainians who left the country because of the war.

There is less and less free sky for the aggressor and the occupier. Azerbaijan has closed its airspace behind Turkey to russian military planes bound for Syria.

What's in russia?

russia will try to open a new front against Ukraine, in Moldova. The British newspaper The Times writes about this referring to Ukrainian military sources. According to one of the sources of the publication, there are several indications that russia will attack Moldova shortly, the army consists of only 3,250 troops. The newspaper writes that Moscow may launch a "Donbas scenario" in Moldova, trying to annex Transnistria to Russia. The operation is allegedly being prepared until May 9, when putin will declare russia's recognition of Transnistria's independence.

At the same time, russian Foreign Minister Lavrov hinted that russia would not have "victories" in the war against Ukraine until May 9. "Our military will not artificially adjust its actions to a date, including Victory Day," he said, adding that the pace of the russian military offensive allegedly depends on "the need to minimize any risks to civilians."

"Minimizing" something is not very common on the border with Ukraine. There were serious explosions in Belgorod last night again. The governor of the region Gladkov also announced two explosions but did not name the reasons yet. Again, someone smoked "on-site."

The campaign to recruit "volunteers" for contract military service is boosting in russia. It is assumed that they should restore the losses of personnel of units that took part in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. It is also planned to form several new units. When signing contracts, preference is given to those who have previously served in the military. The military leadership of the russian federation has established clear "recruitment norms" for the Far Eastern and Siberian federal; it's "200" volunteers each week. At the same time, recruitment is not carried out in Moscow at all.

For russian children to get used to the fact that they are nothing more than consumables for their country, russia began to produce children's toys in the form of military equipment involved in the war in Ukraine. The plastic bag is not included in the set. One will be obliged to take it to the war in person.

And a bit of traditional "hot" news. In Perm, a plant burnt that produced charges for the Grad and Uragan MLRS. The regularity of these accidents at work is impressive.

What about russia's minions?

Belarus is shutting down the Internet for Belarusians to hide information about the movement of russian occupation troops through the territory of Belarus, the Ukrainian  Defense Intelligence reports. The first full and partial restriction of access was recorded on April 1. During the month, entire regions of Belarus were restricted from accessing the Internet. The KGB of Belarus and the FSB of russia are trying to limit the communication of patriotic citizens and prevent the dissemination of information on social media about the movement of russian military equipment through the territory of the republic. Dictatorial regimes are trying to shut people up.

russian lies

In russia, people are fed lies. A new art exhibition has opened in Moscow named "Chronicle of NATO Cruelty." Everything that could be found in the warehouses of the "Mosfilm" props was stuffed into glass boxes.

lavrov said yesterday that "Hitler had Jewish blood" and said that "the fiercest anti-Semites are usually Jews." The shocked Israelis immediately summoned the russian ambassador to the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said Lavrov's words were "unforgivable, outrageous and a gross historical error," Haaretz reported. Israel, Lapid said, is waiting for an apology from lavrov.

Sanctions on the aggressor!

The EU will suspend imports of russian coal in the summer and abandon russian oil by the end of the year. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with Indian Express. "Many countries have joined the sanctions, even if it inevitably entails economic costs for ourselves. In addition, we are now pursuing a very ambitious policy to reduce our dependence on russian fossil fuel imports. This summer we will stop importing russian coal, we will stop russian oil by the end of the year, and sharply reduce gas imports from russia," Scholz said.

The Finnish company Fennovoima announced the termination of the contract with the Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation for the construction of the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant.

The ports of the Netherlands refuse to unload the tanker Sunny Liger with russian diesel fuel, as European countries are close to imposing an embargo on oil products from russia, Bloomberg reports. Initially, the ship was refused in the Swedish port, and in recent days it was not allowed to go to Rotterdam, and then to Amsterdam.

Life considering hostilities

Ukrainian opera singer Liudmyla Monastyrska took the stage at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, wrapped in the Ukrainian flag. The hall greeted her with a standing ovation. Monastyrska replaced the pro-Putler singer Anna Netrebko in Giacomo Puccini's Turandot.

russia has blocked about 4 million tons of grain in Ukrainian ports, said Martin Frick, a spokesman for the UN World Food Program. Grain cannot be exported through closed sea routes during the war. Meanwhile, the head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power said that russia's invasion of Ukraine can be compared with the aftermath of World War II.

OKKO and WOG, one of the largest gas station networks in Ukraine, in the context of fuel shortages on the market, have announced a temporary restriction to 10 liters with a PRIDE loyalty card or program. At the same time, the restriction on canisters is lifted. The general mobilization can continue in Ukraine, the head of the personnel department of the headquarters of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Horbach expects. The current one expires on May 24.

The general mobilization can continue in Ukraine, the head of the personnel department of the headquarters of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Horbach expects. The current one expires on May 24.

Kyiv and the region

The Kyiv Metro has completed the first stage of collecting proposals to rename five subway stations and identified the most popular options.

The Kyiv Region Police Chief said that since the beginning of the war, 1,202 bodies of civilians who had died at the hands of russian soldiers had been found in the region. Another 300 people are missing, Andrii Nebitov added.

Today, Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod arrived in the Kyiv region to see the results of the atrocities of racist scum. In Irpin, together with European journalists, he recorded the consequences of the russian occupation, said Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn.

The Security Service of Ukraine reports that they learned the names of almost 900 russians who committed atrocities in the Kyiv region. Ukraine's special services have all the information about the occupiers, as well as evidence of their atrocities. The SBU also exposed about 100 collaborationists who helped the enemy in the Kyiv region. Documenting each russian invader is currently underway. Investigative and operative units of the Security Service of Ukraine interviewed almost 7,000 witnesses to hostile atrocities. If you have information about the crimes of russians in the Kyiv region, call +38 096 928 93 89 (or write on WhatsApp or Telegram).

A cat was rescued from a bombed-out building in Borodianka. A new symbol of vitality has appeared in Ukraine.

Donetsk and Luhansk regions

The driver of the bus shot at Popasna the other day was captured by the occupiers. This was announced by the head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration Serhii Haidai. "Today, after two days of searching, Mykhailo Pankov was found. The russians recorded a propaganda interview with him and showed it on the central ruscist TV channel." The occupiers forced the driver to say that the Ukrainian authorities were not evacuating people, that they were abandoned. "I understand that Mykhailo had no other option. The shots are eloquent. Thank God he is alive. But the orcs are now holding him captive. It also means that the russians have taken over the school bus and can use it for their provocations. We will do everything possible to free him!" Haidai assured.

As a result of shelling by the russian occupiers in Lyman in the Donetsk region, 4 civilians were killed and 7 others were injured. In addition, three people were injured in Volodymyrivka and one in Yarova.

A very difficult 24 hours were in the Luhansk region. Three were killed, and many homes were destroyed. At least 12 houses were destroyed in Orikhovo, four in Hirske, the head of the Luhansk region Serhii Haidai said. In Lysychansk, an old building of a multidisciplinary gymnasium, which is part of the Belgian heritage of the city, burned down, and several houses were damaged. There are six high-rise buildings in Sievierodonetsk, five of which are located next to each other.

A child born in 2010 was wounded during the shelling in Zolote.

Now the enemy is concentrating its main efforts on taking full control of Rubizhne and preparing for the offensive in Sievierodonetsk, to strengthen the troops in this direction there sent a battalion tactical group from Mariupol, the morning report of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.

In Lysychansk, the occupiers burned one of the best schools in the country, which is over 100 years old, Lysychansk Gymnasium. "It was built over 100 years ago by the Belgians. It was in the top 100 best schools in the country. It survived two world wars and a battle for the city in 2014, but burned down because of beasts without values in 2022," said Serhii Haidai, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration.

The ruscists take out the bodies of the killed Mariupol residents in trucks that are used to deliver humanitarian aid. This was reported in the Mariupol City Council. "According to Mariupol residents who are still in the city, first the occupiers bring some sets of food, and then the same trucks take out the bodies of killed Mariupol residents, who are still being taken out from under the rubble of destroyed houses," the statement said. In the photo, you can see one of the trucks, which first brought "humanitarian aid," and then loaded killed civilians:

At the same time, the occupiers are trying to pretend that life in the shattered city continues in the normal mode. The ruscists have appointed collaborationist Vadym Istratov as Gauleiter's deputy for financial and budgetary issues. The adviser to the mayor of Mariupol Petro Andriushchenko reported about it. The traitor Istratov was a deputy of the OPZZh faction in the city council, and with the arrival of the occupiers, he sided with them.

To maintain the information blockade, the russians tightly control the people of Mariupol. You can't even take a selfie without the permission of russian soldiers. "You may be surprised, but the city's residents are convinced that russian soldiers are marching on Khreshchatyk, Kharkiv is under russian control and every man from Mariupol is sent to the front when leaving," wrote Petro Andriushchenko, an adviser to the mayor.

Kharkiv region

During the day, the occupiers fired 5 artillery shellings at Kharkiv. Saltivka and HTZ were affected. Bohodukhiv, Zolochiv, Mala Danylivka, and Chuhuiv were shelled in the region. Unfortunately, 3 people were killed and 8 civilians were injured.

The fighting continues in the Izium district. The enemy is trying to conduct offensive operations in the direction of Barvinkove. But the Armed Forces hold positions, so occupiers' attempts to attack are unsuccessful. Our fighters are conducting more than one successful combat operation today. But so far we can not talk about everything. The russian occupiers are demoralized and refuse to go to war.

In general, the number of shellings has decreased, but the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Oleh Synehubov asks not to lose vigilance.

The Ukrainian military still managed to take control of the village of Ruska Lozova in the Kharkiv region, despite the aggravation and losses, said Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar. The liberation of the village became known on April 29, but then Maliar said that there was an escalation: the enemy became more active, so the Ukrainians had at least 12 wounded and one dead.

Zaporizhzhia region

russian troops have taken agricultural machinery from the dealership from Melitopol and sent it to Chechnya. The cost of the equipment is estimated at $5 million, CNN reports citing a local Ukrainian businessman. It is reported that the equipment was taken out of the Agrotek dealership. However, according to the businessman, when the combines were brought to Chechnya, they could not even turn them on because the equipment was blocked remotely. Most likely, now the stolen equipment will simply be disassembled into spare parts.

Two people were killed and four others were injured in the shelling of residential neighborhoods in Orikhiv, Zaporizhzhia region. The Zaporizhzhia regional state administration reports about it. "The occupiers hit high-rise buildings. As a result of enemy shelling with injuries of varying severity, four people were taken to hospitals, two more men died from shrapnel wounds," the statement said.

Orikhiv is right on the front line, where fierce fighting is now going on. The russian army is trying to move north.

Dnipropetrovsk region

The new Holodomor is one of the goals of russia's "special operation." Where the ruscists are unable to export Ukrainian grain, they are trying to destroy it remotely. In the morning, the occupiers destroyed a warehouse with grain by a missile strike in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the head of the regional military administration Valentyn Reznichenko. "We have a hit again in the Synelnykove district," Reznichenko said. The rocket hit the elevator. There are preliminarily no victims.

8:45 – A new blow to the Dnipropetrovsk region. Two rockets landed on the border with Donbas, said the head of the regional council Mykola Lukashuk.

The occupiers continue to bombard the Sinelnykove district. At about noon, the russians fired twice at the pig farm. It damaged the warehouses. There is a 15-meter-wide, 10-meter-deep funnel between them. The pigs are alive! Valerii Reznichenko, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration reports.

Poltava region

Ivan Samsonov, a 10-year-old Kharkiv resident, raised almost 1,000 hryvnias for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Due to the war, the boy and his parents have lived in Poltava for two months. Here he resumed the work he had been doing in his hometown, weaving multicolored bracelets. Ivan gives the earned money to his parents, who transfer the collected money to help the military.

A man with a fragmentary neck injury and a fracture of the skull base was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Mykolaiv region

Internet communications between Mykolaiv and Kherson regions have been disrupted in the war zone. The governor of the Mykolaiv region Vitalii Kim stated it. "We have determined the point, today we will try to understand if they turned it off. If there is an opportunity and availability, we will fix it, we will not leave Kherson residents without communication." He also declared that Mykolaiv prepares for a holiday season. "At this time, we are usually preparing for the holiday season. This year will be the holiday season, but it will be different," said Kim.

Odesa region

The State Bureau of Investigations detained supporters of Illia Kyva, who were to organize provocations and destabilize the situation in the Odesa region. According to the agency, at the request of Illia Kyva, one of the suspects was responsible for gathering people in Odesa and ensuring their participation in pro-russian rallies in the country. Another detainee hired security guards from OPZZh representatives for mass events in Odesa and Kyiv regions.

12:40 – The russian military launched a missile strike on the bridge across the Dniester estuary for the third time, the Odesa Regional Military Administration reported. After the first two, traffic on the damaged bridge was normalized. It is reported that today the enemy attacked the Odesa region with three missiles. Information on injuries and casualties is being clarified.

The work of the UAV was recorded over the Black Sea; then it was destroyed by air defense forces, and the enemy drone did not make it to Odesa, the South Operational Command reported.

19:30 – Missiles were struck again in Odesa; the city's infrastructure facilities were hit, in particular, one of the religious buildings was damaged. The head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Maksym Marchenko, reports that there are dead and wounded as a result of the strike. UPD: According to preliminary data, a 15-year-old boy was killed and a 17-year-old girl was seriously injured in a rocket attack.

"We will not leave it like this. Every time these scum act like ordinary terrorists, we have one response with terrorists. We will destroy them until no living occupier remains on Ukrainian soil!" the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Maksym Marchenko commented on the bloody shelling.

Chernihiv region

The Ukrainian Potato initiative was launched in Chernihiv Region. Seed potatoes will be sent free of charge throughout Ukraine. According to the organizers, up to 30 kg of seed potatoes will be provided for free for each person who'd like them. All you have to do is pay for Nova Poshta delivery and at the end of the season hand over the funds for the seeds to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, or hand over a bag of potatoes to the army or the territorial defense unit in the autumn. "The initiative will last until we distribute 30 tons," said Ihor Shkurko, director of PJSC NGO Chernihivelitkartoplya.
