Today, February 28, and the fifth day of Russia's military attack on Ukraine. We're telling about all the current news. The article will be constantly updated.
How is the 5th day of the war ending?
- During the day the aggressor's troops regrouped and accumulated armored vehicles and missile and artillery weapons in certain areas, primarily to surround and capture Kyiv and major cities of Ukraine, including Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Odesa, Kherson, and Mariupol. A significant part of military equipment comes from the territory of Belarus and through the occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
- Separate units of the most combat-ready divisions of the Armed Forces of Belarus have started moving to the State Border of Ukraine in the Volyn direction. In addition, the territory of Belarus continues to be used for combat sorties of army, operational, tactical, and special aircraft of the Russian Armed Forces to perform tasks on the territory of our country.
- Airplanes of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation resumed conducting an air reconnaissance of objects on the territory of Ukraine from the airspace of the Republic of Belarus.
- The enemy, losing offensive potential, loses the human face along with it. Numerous cases of violations of the laws of war and international humanitarian law by the Russian aggressor have been recorded along the entire offensive line.
- During the deployment of a column of tanks and armored personnel carriers, the aggressor fired on the homes of local residents in the Chernihiv region, from Talalaivka to Nizhyn.
- Tanks from the Russian occupation forces on their way through the village of Borodyanka, on the orders of their commanders, began to deliberately destroy infrastructure and housing, and a separate group of tanks opened chaotic fire on high-rise buildings.

Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

Kyiv and region

17:25 – Russian occupiers fired on the village of Horenka, Kyiv region. A local resident showed the consequences of the shelling on one of the streets of the settlement, the shot pharmacy, and cars.
19:13 – An air raid was made on the outskirts of Brovary towards Kyiv. There are wounded. It is already known about six victims of the air raid on Brovary.
21:22 – SES published data on rocket attacks:
- At 19:10, as a result of a missile strike on Vasylkiv, Bila Tserkva and the village of a five-story dormitory and two five-story residential buildings were destroyed in Kalynivka.
- As of 8:30 p.m., a rocket attack in Bila Tserkva destroyed a 3-story dormitory without further burning. Rescuers released two people. According to preliminary data, another person is under the rubble.
- In Vasilkiv, a 5-story dormitory was destroyed with further burning on an area of 15 square meters.
- Rescuers brought equipment to the scene. It is being clarified whether anyone is in the building.
- At about 7.20 pm, during the shelling of the Radomyshl community, two rockets dropped from the plane hit several objects, resulting in a fire.

Chernihiv
The city was shelled at night. A residential building, a shop, and a kindergarten were damaged.

12:20 – for 20 minutes the intensive shelling of Chernihiv, streets: Bielova, Rokosovskoho, Dotsenko, Pukhova.
17:28 – Military equipment of the enemy and prisoners was seized in the Chernihiv region.
20:28 – The mayor of Chernihiv Vladyslav Atroshenko addressed Belarusians from the bombed office.
Cherkasy
The last air alarm was stopped at 3 am. Since then, it was calm. In the morning Cherkasy has an air alarm.
Zhytomyr
Sirens rang in the city all night, the authorities assure the situation is under control.
Kharkiv
All night the Ukrainian Armed Forces repulsed the offensive, destroying columns on the approaches to the positions before they could launch artillery shelling of the city. There is nothing left from the apartment house in Izium (Kharkiv region) as a result of night shelling by Russian Nazi troops. Now they assure: the city is under control.
11:44 – It's hot in Kharkiv again. The shelling is happening.
13:25 – The Russians are already beating the city with Grad launchers! Kharkiv suffered a massive blow, according to Interior Minister's adviser Anton GHerashchenko. Dozens dead and hundreds injured.
15:14 – the mayor assessed the situation. According to Ihor Terekhov, the situation is difficult, but Kharkiv is holding on. There are shellings in residential areas. We have 15 wounded soldiers, 16 locals wounded, one woman killed. This is preliminary information, we still don't understand how many dead are there ☠
16:33 – After the last shelling of Kharkiv, 31 people were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. One woman died, rescuers say. The rocket pierced the roof, floor and did not explode in one of the Kharkiv buildings.
19:03 – Kharkiv region doesn't give up. Today in Derhachi, the police destroyed two Russian tanks.
Sumy
Fighting in the Sumy region continues.
12:06 – Near Okhtyrka, Russians on the armored personnel carrier shot civilians driving in the car VAZ 99, took away the car, and went towards Chupakhivka, the mayor of Okhtyrka Pavlo Kuzmenko says.
12:35 – The oil depot was blown up, the head of the Sumy regional state administration.

Dnipro

Zaporizhzhia and region
Berdiansk is occupied. Enemy equipment is observed in various communities. In Berdiansk, two people were injured during an operation to seize the city: one was killed and another was wounded. The city authorities refused to cooperate with the occupiers.
18:09 – Russian troops destroyed the building of the Executive Committee of the Melitopol City Council. In addition, looters are operating in the city.
Mykolaiv
An alarm rang several times at night, but in general, the situation is stable.
15:57 – "Go Home" and "F*ck off" – Mykolaiv residents shout to occupiers who protect the city council occupied by them. Several hundred citizens gathered for the rally.
The chairperson of the Mykolaiv regional state administration Kim called to prepare for the offensive of the army of the Russian Federation in two directions; there is a big column of equipment.
Odesa
The night was relatively calm. The situation in the region is under the control of the Armed Forces.
Kherson
The night in the city was quiet, unlike Kakhovka, where occupiers hit with Grad launchers.

Luhansk and Donetsk regions
The night was relatively calm. In the morning, twelve units of equipment, of which 4 tanks, moved towards Svatovo. Air alarm. Heavy fighting for Mariupol and Volnovakha was also going on again.
At noon, explosions were heard on the outskirts of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

Fighting in Ukraine
Kropyvnytskyi and Volyn: The night was calm. In Rivne, for the first time since the beginning of the war, there was no air alarm in the city in the morning. Vinnytsia is relatively calm, but in the morning, the air alarm rings again.

Evacuations
For the third day in a row, "fake" evacuations have been reported. Trust only verified sources. Ukrzaliznytsia reports about evacuation trains. Currently, the Ukrainian authorities are not evacuating. Be careful!
Today, Ukrzaliznytsia scheduled an additional evacuation train from Kyiv to Lviv at 12:00. Another evacuation train to western Ukraine is planned from Kharkiv in the near future. The Ukrainian carrier calls on Europe and Asia to stop the railway connection with Russia
The Kyiv Metro has started operating in the mode of transportation.
