Timeline: day 169 of Ukraine’s defense against russia’s aggression

Today is August 11. russia's military attack on Ukraine has been going on for 169 days. We're reporting on the current news. The article will be updated.

What about today?

Key points

A new day means further success. The Ukrainian forces destroyed the russian command post on the southern borders. The enemy's losses are 41 invaders, three Msta-B howitzers, and seven armored vehicles. In addition, the enemy army was left without ammunition.

A new day means further success. The Ukrainian forces destroyed the russian command post on the southern borders. The enemy's losses are 41 invaders, three Msta-B howitzers, and seven armored vehicles. In addition, the enemy army was left without ammunition.

The first satellite images of the russian airbase in Crimea were made publicly available after the explosions. Satellite images show many destroyed combat aircraft of the russian aerospace forces. Ukraine's General Staff, speaking yesterday about the nine destroyed russian planes, clearly underestimated. According to approximate estimates, the destroyed/damaged are:

  • eight Su-27 jets
  • four Su-30 jets
  • five Su-24 jets
  • six Mi-8 jets
  • one IL-20 plane
  • In addition, four ammunition warehouses for aircraft.

The various russian media stories about the bombings in Crimea suggest that either russian defense ministry officials have different theories about the attack or that the Kremlin has failed to coordinate its information operation. Instead, Ukrainian officials use "obvious confusion" to hide the long-range capabilities of their troops, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted.

The General Staff reports that the Ukrainian military repelled the assaults of the russians in several directions. The occupiers retreated near Verkhniokamyanske, Bakhmutske, Zaitseve, and Pavlivka. Currently, hostilities continue in the Ivano-Daryivka, Maryinka, Pisky, Dacha, and Vershyna areas in the Donetsk region.

Also, the Ukrainian troops eliminated precisely 43,000 occupiers.

Ten russian ships are hiding from the storm in the Black Sea. The South operational command reported this. Two missile carriers and two large amphibious ships are on combat duty. 16 enemy Kalibr missile systems are ready for use.

The Kerch bridge must be destroyed as soon as possible. This was stated by the chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov. Chubarov noted that the bridge was the main channel of communication through which russian equipment and troops are imported to the peninsula. "For all reasons, it is our territory; this is the water area that is adjacent to our territory due to maritime rights… russia built this bridge illegally, and this bridge is now being used to destroy the Ukrainian people, the Ukrainian state.

.

No matter what happens and no matter what the occupiers plan, we must do our part—protect our state and take care of each other. The more effective we all are in this, the sooner we will win.

Humanitarian missions

The Red Cross was never allowed to visit the victims in Olenivka. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says several requests to visit the site have gone unanswered. "We have not been given access to the POWs who were affected by the attack, and we do not have security guarantees to carry out this visit."

So far, there are only signs of what might have happened. Given the russians' promotion of the implausible HIMARS scenario, these signs point to a sophisticated but clumsy attempt at russian falsification, CNN's investigation says.

Who's coming to Ukraine?

On financial and informational aid, weapons, and politicians

Britain will transfer to Ukraine three more M270 MLRS in addition to the three already assigned, as well as a "significant" amount of ammunition for them. British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace reported this in a comment to the BBC.

Switzerland will send 100 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The assistance will include medical and firefighting equipment, the Swiss president said on Twitter. According to him, since March, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has delivered 5,300 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

The Department of Defense of Denmark announced that it supports an educational project to train Ukrainian soldiers under the leadership of Britain and is sending 130 instructors. "We also offer to train Ukrainian soldiers in Denmark. The corresponding dialogue with Kyiv has already started."

Other countries have joined the study of Ukrainians in Britain:

  • Sweden sends 120 instructors to train Ukrainian service members.
  • Canada sends up to 225 military instructors will train recruits from Ukraine.
  • Great Britain helps Ukrainians master the management of new types of armored vehicles.

In addition, Ukraine's Ukroboronprom weapon producer concluded a cooperation agreement with 18 Danish defense companies. They plan to cooperate in the areas of unmanned and maritime systems, cyber defense, and possible production cooperation.

News from partners

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said the joint air defense system of the United States and Canada detected two russian surveillance aircraft near Alaska in the past two days.

russia's actions may be recognized as a genocide of Ukrainians at the international level. Great Britain has applied to participate in the genocide case of Ukraine against russia. The UN International Court of Justice is considering it.

The UN expects the number of ships heading to Ukrainian ports to increase when the grain sale is agreed upon. While there have been no wheat shipments, ships are leaving with corn, soybeans, sunflower oil, and grist. The UN emphasized that the export agreement is a commercial, not a humanitarian operation, which the market will drive.

Today, Copenhagen hosts the conference of Northern European allies to support Ukraine.

Sanctions against the aggressor!

There is no question about russian tourism. The Czech Republic insists on banning the issuance of visas for the russian federation. The country stopped issuing Schengen visas to russians the day after russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Now the Czech Republic repeatedly raises this issue at meetings in Brussels at the level of prime ministers and ministers of foreign affairs and seeks a coordinated approach of the entire European Union.

"Traveling to Europe for russians is not a right of inheritance, but a privilege," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia emphasized.

At the same time, Lithuania proposed to revoke citizenship for supporting Russia's war against Ukraine. According to the new project of amendments to the law on citizenship, passports can be taken from foreigners who received them in an exceptional manner and support the aggression of the russian federation.
