What about today?

Key points

"The price of freedom is high. It is challenging because the fire advantage is on the enemy's side. Despite everything, we hold on. The situation is difficult but controlled," said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi. Currently, Ukrainian defenders are forced to maneuver their defenses and occupy more advantageous frontiers and positions. "But every meter of land occupied by the occupier is flooded with his blood," the general said.

Ukrainian aircraft in the south of the country last night struck five blows at enemy positions. The South operational command reported this. "Confirmed losses of the enemy are 44 ruscists, 2,152 mm guns of Giatsynt-B and Msta-B types, several armored vehicles, and motor vehicles," said the soldiers.

At the same time, Ukrainian guerrillas continued to resist in the occupied territories. Thus, in particular, in the Kherson region, they complicate the work of the occupying "power."

Ukrainian Su-24M bombers and Su-25 attack aircraft struck powerful blows at enemy troops and their logistics centers. The Air Force Command reports that in the north-eastern direction, the strike groups hit ammunition depots, up to 30 enemy armored combat vehicles, a workforce, and a point for repair and restoration of military equipment.

Yesterday became historic for Ukraine. All 27 member states of the European Union supported granting our country the candidate status for EU membership. Ukrainians have earned this status for their heroism and devotion to democratic values.

"Candidate status is an important signal to all Ukrainians that our common future is in the European Union, and the process of joining the EU will become an integral part of the path to rebuilding our country," said Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmyhal. "In addition, it opens Ukraine to wider access to EU programs and funds, as well as to attract new investments, as businesses will now see Ukraine as a potential member of the European Union and a promising platform for startups."

"However, this decision is not only for Ukraine. It is the biggest step to strengthen Europe, which could be done right now, in our time and such conditions, when the russian war tests our ability to preserve freedom and unity," said the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Who's coming to Ukraine?

On financial and information aid, weapons and politicians

The White House has announced a new tranche of $450 million in military aid to Ukraine. The military aid package includes four HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, 18 patrol boats, 36,000 artillery shells, 1,200 grenade launchers, and 2,000 machine guns.

There will be more of HIMARS. John Kirby, the US National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator, said the White House planned to help Ukraine as much as necessary and possible. It also applies to MLRS.

The Come Back Alive Foundation made the most expensive purchase in its history; they purchased 20 PD-2 drones for $8.5 million or UAH 300 million. These are reconnaissance drones with the possibility of combat use, which have a range of up to 200 km and can fly 1000 km on the 1st tank.

The United Kingdom is ready to help Ukraine with the demining of the Black Sea coast and the export of grain, Reuters reports. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the country is ready to provide sovereign guarantees to ensure ships that export grain from Ukrainian ports.

Assistance to refugees and IDPs

For Ukrainian children forced to stay abroad, 100,000 books were published within the Book Without Borders project. The project currently covers 14 countries. Most copies are in Poland, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom. Therefore, Ukrainian children will be able to read Ukrainian even abroad. Olena Zelenska, who initiated the project, said that the initiators created the first bright models of books in Ukraine. The ambassadors agree with local publishers, so the books are published for Ukrainian children.

News from partners!

The US Senate Committee has adopted a resolution recognizing russia as a sponsor of terrorism. If the Secretary of State approves, russia will be the 5th country on the State Department's list, including Cuba, North Korea, Iran, and Syria. "So far, this is the only resolution supported by the committee. The final decision must be made by the presidential administration. This is a committee resolution calling for an administration, but not actual recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism," said Senator Koons.

The European Union disagrees with the term "blockade" used by the russian authorities in relation to Kaliningrad. European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell stated this. According to him, the Lithuanian authorities, which restricted land transit between Kaliningrad and the rest of russia, acted under EU sanctions.

France will be able to do without russian gas, the Minister of Energy Transition of France Agnès Pannier-Runacher said. "We can do without russian gas, which means that all liquefied gas tankers will arrive on time and that we will be able to comfortably fill our strategic storage," the minister said.

Sanctions on the aggressor!

Microsoft is still in russia but will reduce its business in russia until there is almost nothing left.

The decision to phase out business in russia and Belarus was also made by the multinational corporation Cisco, which manufactures telecommunications equipment.

Life considering hostilities

McDonald's may open its restaurants in Ukraine in August, Forbes reports. McDonald's CEO in Ukraine, Yulia Badritdinova, confirmed that the company was considering resuming operations. However, restaurants will not open everywhere. Institutions will remain closed in the war zone, as well as in places where there are no shelters nearby. Also, McDonald's will not work during air raid alarms. There is no official return date yet.

Kyiv and the region

In the Kyiv region, the repair of road infrastructure facilities, which suffered significant damage because of russian aggression, is underway. The services eliminated 7,760.57 square meters of potholes and damage to the public property, streets, and roads within the settlements. The construction of 24 temporary road crossings on artificial structures in the Kyiv region has also been completed.

A preparatory hearing in the case of russian soldier Mikhail Romanov took place in the Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv. Romanov is being tried in absentia (the authorities did not take him prisoner, and he continues, if still alive, to serve in the russian army) and behind closed doors, without access to the press and the public. He is accused of killing Oleksii Zdorovets, a resident of the village of Bohdanivka, and raping his wife.

It is the third russian military to be tried in Ukraine. Earlier, two prisoners of war, Aleksandr Bobykin, and Aleksandr Ivanov, were sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison.

Donetsk and Luhansk regions

Last night, the enemy went on the offensive on the southern outskirts of Lysychansk but was repulsed, the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Haidai, said. He also confirmed information about the loss of Mykolaivka. It is a village with a direct path to the Bakhmut-Lysychansk highway.

Another essential news from Haidai. He stated that the Ukrainian troops had already been ordered to leave Sievierodonetsk; the city's defenders would retreat to more fortified positions. Haidai spoke about such a possibility yesterday. But today, he confirmed the command gave such an order.

The Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi reported that the Ukrainian forces moved to maneuverable defense and would be compelled under fire pressure of russians to occupy safer positions.

In the Bakhmut and Sloviansk direction, heavy fighting continues.

The Ukrainian troops successfully stopped the enemy's offensive near Borivske.

"We know the intentions of the enemy; we are doing everything to stop them first and then destroy them," Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, assured on the telethon.

What does the russian "care" in ruined Mariupol look like? The Defense Intelligence reports:

  • russia conducts a "population census" in Mariupol. People are required to have identity documents. Fingerprints are also collected from locals.
  • The occupiers expel Mariupol residents on the street. Residents are informed about the demolition of their homes and given a day to collect things.
  • The city began building "modular houses" for those left without a roof over their heads. They are erected next to the line of occupation defense, thus creating a living shield.
  • In Mariupol, food prices soared. The cost of a one-and-a-half-liter bottle of water is about 100 hryvnias. Pork costs 600 hryvnias.

Kharkiv region

At night, the enemy fired again at Chuhuiv and Derhachi. The shelling cut a gas pipeline in Derhachi.

Because of the rocket fire on June 24 in Kharkiv, the sports complex of one of the universities was damaged. The Kharkiv region's police spokesperson, Volodymyr Timoshko, reported about it. "At night, Kharkiv, the village of Tsyrkuny, and the cities of Derhachi and Chuhuiv were hit by enemy missiles and shells. Residential houses and garages were damaged, and the premises of the university's sports complex in Kharkiv were partially destroyed," the statement said.

During the past 24hrs, two people were killed, and ten others were injured in the shelling in the Kharkiv region:

  • There are six wounded in the city of Chuhuiv, including two children, 6 and 9 years old, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported. One person was injured in the village of Velyka Babka, Chuhuiv district. Another civilian was wounded in Zolochiv, Bohodukhiv district.
  • As a result of the occupiers' shelling, two residents of the village of Andriivka, Izium district, were injured.
  • Two more people died in the town of Balaklia, Izium district.

Chernihiv region

The russian army fired at the border areas of the Chernihiv region at night, the head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, Viacheslav Chaus, reported. There were five explosions near Senkivka (preliminarily, from a mortar), near the intersection of Hasychivka–Khrenivka–Horsk–Senkivka roads.

The russian army also fired 20 mortars near the village of Yanzhulivka in the Semenivka community.

Dnipropetrovsk region

Residents of the Dnipropetrovsk region also couldn't sleep peacefully. At night the enemy once again struck the Kryvyi Rih district from Uragan MRLS, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Valentin Reznichenko, reports. The blows hit two communities of Hrechani Pody and Shyroke. There is destruction in the Shyroke community. People were not injured.

Zaporizhzhia region

The explosions that the residents of Zaporizhzhia heard that night were the enemy's shelling of the suburbs with multiple-rocket launchers. The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Starukh, reported about it. "Preliminarily, infrastructure facilities in the area of one of the settlements near the regional center were affected. There were no hits in the city," he said.

Kherson region

On the morning of June 24, an explosion occurred in one of the districts of Kherson. Citizens reported someone blew up a car. As a source among Ukrainian law enforcement officers confirmed to the Kherson edition of MOST, the driver was the so-called "Head of the Department of Family, Youth, and Sports of the Kherson military-civilian administration," Dmytro Savluchenko. He died on the spot. Savluchenko is a well-known pro-russian "activist" in Kherson. In 2020, he ran in the elections in the Volodymyr Saldo Bloc to the Dnipro District Council. With the beginning of russia's invasion, he began cooperating with the occupiers. Collaborators, get ready!

The village head of one of the communities in the Skadovsk district voluntarily sided with the occupying power, provided the russian special services with lists of activists, servicemen, and members of the anti-terrorist operation/joint forces operation, and facilitated the construction of fortifications for russian troops. He was declared a suspect in treason, the Security Service in the Kherson region reports.

Odesa region

The night in Odesa and the region passed under air raid alarm sirens; the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Serhii Bratchuk, reports on the situation in the area.

Bratchuk also stated that after the liberation of the temporarily occupied territories, in particular the Kherson region, the Odesa region would support its compatriots with the necessary number of grain crops.
