Timeline: day 105 of Ukraine’s defense from russia’s aggression

Today is June 8. russia's military attack on Ukraine has been going on for 105 days. We're reporting on the current news. The article will be updated.

What about today?

Key points

The Ukrainian army's South Operational Command addressed the Ukrainians: "Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russian troops, the problem of information hygiene has become especially acute. The occupiers are brutally shelling the positions of the Ukrainian military and civilian objects: houses, hospitals, railway stations and retail chains, schools, and kindergartens. Unfortunately, uncontrolled distribution of information and panic on social media and Telegram channels have fatal consequences. People publish information about the movement of troops, critical infrastructure, rocket fire, and the location of troops, thus consciously or unconsciously adjusting enemy fire."

Let's not forget that. Don't help russia kill our military and civilians! No hype is worth a human life.

The UN reports that at least 4,253 civilians have died in Ukraine since the full-scale war started, including 263 children. Another 5,141 people were injured. Eternal memory to all the victims, revenge for everyone!

During the day, in the eastern direction, our soldiers destroyed:

  • 56 russian soldiers;
  • one mortar;
  • 12 AT-T tanks;
  • One refueler;
  • One unit of special equipment.

Ukrainian defenders repulsed 11 attacks by the russian occupiers in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers turned into scrap:

  • Three tanks;
  • Five artillery systems;
  • Two armored combat vehicles;
  • 13 motor vehicles;
  • Three warehouses with ammunition.

The occupiers fired on more than 16 settlements. The fighting continues.

Our missile and artillery units and aircraft struck four times at enemy forces deployments in the South. Preliminarily, the Ukrainian troops destroyed several armored vehicles and ammunition units. The final losses are being clarified.

russia's current losses as of the morning of June 8:

"More than 31,000 russian servicemen have already died in Ukraine. Since February 24, russia has paid almost 300 lives of its soldiers every day for a completely senseless war against Ukraine. And still, the day will come when the number of losses, even for russia, will exceed the permissible limit," commented the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukraine's talks with russia

On Tuesday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv would not be satisfied with the stalemate on the battlefield with russia and that Ukraine's goal was to regain control of all of its territory occupied by Moscow.

russian foreign minister lavrov has arrived in Turkey to discuss difficulties with grain exports from Ukrainian ports caused by the Kremlin's war.

At the same time, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Oleksii Danylov, stated that the grain supply by sea from Ukrainian ports would be possible only after ensuring the country's security. "If the issue of our country's security is not resolved, no grain will go anywhere. Because security is the number one issue for us," Danylov said on Ukraine 24 TV channel.

Who's coming to Ukraine?

On financial and information aid, weapons and politicians

Ambassador of Ukraine Yevhen Korniichuk called on Israel to sell its Iron Dome missile interception system and provide anti-tank missiles to protect the population from russian attack. Korniichuk noted that the Israeli government needed to strengthen its vocal support for Ukraine with military assistance.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense hasn't commented on the Ukrainian ambassador's statement yet. We should note that Israel blocked the transfer of Spike SR from Germany to Ukraine last week.

The World Bank has approved $1.49 billion in financial assistance to Ukraine, increasing the planned Ukrainian economy support package to more than $4 billion.

The kingdom's defense ministry said that Norway had handed over two dozen 155-mm M109 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, complete with ammunition, equipment, and spare parts.

With the help of the French CAESAR self-propelled howitzers, Ukrainian soldiers are already destroying the russian occupiers. Ukraine's General Staff published the photo with the Ukrainian artillery soldiers. We believe in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and thank our partners for their help.

News from partners

The European Parliament will recommend that the EU heads of state and government, who will meet at the summit on June 23-24, grant Ukraine the candidate status for EU membership and purchase weapons for Ukraine to repel russian aggression. The chairman of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister, announced this on Tuesday during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. McAllister presented eight points of the European Parliament's recommendations to the EU summit participants. All of them are somehow connected with the situation in Ukraine, and three of them directly affect its interests.

Montenegro (not an EU member but a NATO member) has shut down russian TV channels.

What's in russia?

Moscow's chief rabbi, Pinchas Goldschmidt, was forced to leave russia after refusing to support russia's aggression in Ukraine. After Goldschmidt's refusal and departure to Israel, the russian authorities began to pressure the Moscow Jewish community to change the chief rabbi. The community refused.

A native of Zurich, Goldschmidt has served as chairman of Moscow's rabbinical court since 1990.

Kyiv and the region

In the Kyiv region, the proper authorities will conduct a radiation survey of the territories previously occupied by the russians. Since russian equipment invaded Ukraine from the exclusion zone, there are risks of transferring radioactive contamination beyond its borders.

The radiation monitoring network in the Chornobyl nuclear plant shut down on February 24, the first day of the conflict, when russian troops occupied and held Chornobyl for five weeks. At the same time, the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone resumed work on the radiation monitoring network, the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement. The measurements showed that the radiation levels correspond to those measured before the russian invasion.

Donetsk and Luhansk regions

The ruscists threw all their forces to capture Sievierodonetsk and the Lysychansk-Bakhmut highway, Serhii Haidai, head of the Luhansk Regional State Administration, said. According to him, the ruscists face the task of capturing the city and "cutting off" the route by June 10. The situation in Sievierodonetsk is difficult, but the enemy cannot take control of the city. The cities of the free Luhansk region cover the regional center. Lysychansk, Zolote, Katerynivka, and other settlements are shelled daily by heavy enemy artillery.

The press service of the Avdiivka city military administration reports, "The russians are terrorizing the residents of Avdiivka. They've come up with a new way to do this, which we've never encountered in our city before. The russian occupiers call the residents of Avdiivka, ask for their address and the number of people in the house, and then shoot at them. They call from an unknown number and ask the address and how many people are in the house ( they ask it as if they're the residents' long-time acquaintances and care about the city's fate). The person answers. A few minutes after the call, this house is covered by enemy artillery," the statement said. According to the press service, several such cases have been recorded.

Kharkiv region

The russian military in the Kharkiv region mines the territory to prevent a counterattack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Ukraine's General Staff reports that the occupiers are equipping firing positions in the Izium area.

The photo above shows funnels from russian artillery shells near the village of Dovhenke, Kharkiv region/Maxar, June 6, 2022. Don't ask Ukraine why sowing was so bad, and don't say that we're to blame for the fact that the world will starve.

Due to the russian shelling from June 7 to 8, fires broke out in Kharkiv's Kholodnohirsky city district and two regions' districts. As a result of the shelling, private homes, a garage, and a supermarket were damaged, the regional department of the State Emergency Service says.

Sumy region

Yesterday, at almost 11 pm, the ruscists started firing mortars on the territories of the Shostka district. In all cases, the enemy fired from russia's territory. There are no destruction and victims, Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, the head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, reports.

Zaporizhzhia region

The russians have begun withdrawing troops from positions in the Zaporizhzhia region, the American Institute for War Studies (ISW) says. According to researchers, there may be several reasons—they do it to transfer the damaged units to the rear areas or strengthen russian defense in the northwest of the Kherson region.

Kherson region

The russians are holding about 600 civilians in the Kherson region prisoner, Tamila Tasheva, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, said.

The invaders plan to restore the Internet in the Kherson region with restrictions. MOST reports, citing russian media. On one of the occupiers' channels, collaborator Saldo said that the Internetrestoration would be limited. The enemy does this to "not intimidate Kherson residents with false information." But even now, the Kherson region's access to Ukrainian Internet resources is entirely or partially limited.

The occupiers want to prepare a "referendum" on the "accession" of the Kherson region by autumn. The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Hennadii Lahuta, declared it. According to him, on June 6, the Kherson regional state administration's building housed a big meeting of collaborators with the participation of the deputy head of the russian president's administration. He set a task to "prepare a referendum on the region's inclusion in russia by the fall." Lahuta said that it was the last decision of the occupiers; before that, there were other options: "First the republic, then the accession to the Crimea, now the accession to russia."

In general, the situation in the region is critical. Because of hostilities, many houses and infrastructure were damaged, and civilians were killed and seriously injured in the shelling. The situation is steadily difficult in Kalynivka, Velyka Oleksandrivka, Vysokopillia, and Novovorontsovka territorial communities. It is almost impossible to leave and enter the occupied region, only through Crimea.

Mykolaiv region

Mykolaiv again came under fire last night . Information on the consequences is currently being clarified. On June 7, two people were killed in shelling in the village of Zasillia in the Pervomaisk community.
