An eight-year-old patient, Maryna, from the National Children's Specialized Hospital Okhmatdyt, has made history as the first child in Ukraine with an above-the-knee prosthesis to descend a ski slope.
The Minister of Health Viktor Liashko reported that on Facebook.
Maryna's descent down the ski slope lasted 46 seconds, and her remarkable achievement has already been documented in the Book of World Records.

Liashko highlighted that this accomplishment was a significant victory for the young girl, the entire country, and the medical team involved.
"Little Marynka [tender form of the name "Maryna" – ed.] is from Kherson region. In May 2022, she lost her leg when a shell hit her house during Russian shelling. She was evacuated to the capital and received treatment at Okhmatdyt. Initially, little Marynka was discouraged and bedridden, but the dedicated doctors at Okhmatdyt took it upon themselves to support her recovery. She was first fitted with a training prosthesis, followed by a personal one," Liashko wrote.

Marynka is currently undergoing rehabilitation, working with psychologists, and adapting to her new lifestyle. Despite the challenges, she has successfully adjusted to using her prosthesis and has even started actively participating in sports.

"Marynka's story is not just a personal record, but a symbol of the indomitability of all of Ukraine and proof that nothing is impossible," the minister noted.
For reference:
Young athlete Oleksandra Paschal participated in the competition organized by Anna Rizatdinova, the bronze medalist of the 2016 Olympics. In May 2022, during a Russian missile attack, Oleksandra was severely injured in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district, leading to paralysis from leg injuries. After 15 days in a medically induced coma and extensive treatment, she underwent rehabilitation in Austria and learned to walk again using prosthetics. Despite these challenges, she continues to excel in sports, inspiring many with her determination and zest for life, and her participation in the tournament highlights her remarkable resilience.
