Solutions from Ukraine: Kyiv nears completion of modern school with VR classes, robotics, and state-of-the-art facilities

What is the problem?
As of 2022, the Obolon district in Kyiv is one of the city's most densely populated areas, home to 316,100 residents. The district currently hosts 14 secondary schools, most of which were constructed in the 1970s and 1980s.
Due to today's challenges and conditions, educational institutions do not fully meet safety requirements, which certainly negatively affects the educational process. The solution is to re-equip old schools or build new ones at the expense of private business.
What is the solution?
In 2023, the construction of a new comprehensive school, Stanislav Step School, began in Kyiv, Obolon, which will become part of the international educational holding ITStep, which unites 109 academic institutions in Ukraine and 24 countries around the world, including 17 comprehensive schools, seven colleges, six universities, and the Unicorn distance school.
The new school will incorporate the best educational innovations and experience the holding has gained over 26 years of activity.

How does it work?
The educational model of the new school in Obolon involves a STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) – a combination of science, technology, art, and mathematics.
Stanislav Step School, located at 10B Volodymyr Ivasiuk Avenue near the Obolon metro station, will begin classes on September 1, 2025. Prospective students can schedule interviews through the school's website.

The primary attention in the construction and planning of the school is paid to the safety, continuity, and quality of the educational process, the physical development of students, and the creation of a comfortable atmosphere during their stay at school.

To this end, Stanislav Step School has already built a modern, spacious, and comfortable shelter for all students and teaching staff. It is equipped with classrooms, which allow for safe lessons, generators, and uninterrupted internet—access to educational content at any time and in any place, even without electricity and the internet.

Complete digitalization of the educational process, gamification of learning, the ability for students to rate the teacher, virtual laboratories for conducting experiments, electronic laboratories for physics and chemistry lessons, VR and robotics classes, and textbooks will be replaced by tablets. There is no homework at school—students do all independent work.

The school building has:

- its own theater for 400 seats,
- a modern sports complex,
- a school restaurant where parents can choose the menu for the next day,
- a high-tech library.

The curriculum combines the mandatory MES program, in-depth study of foreign languages (English and additional optional), IT, and additional clubs based on interests.

It should be noted that another underground school has opened in the city of Zaporizhzhia, which will accommodate about a thousand children. It was created from scratch on the territory of the specialized boarding school "Sichovyi Collegium" at the state's expense and thanks to a charitable collection from the savED Foundation and KFC in Ukraine.
