United to win: Norway unveils $100 mln aid package for Ukraine's air defense

Norway has allocated a new financial assistance package to Ukraine. The funds will be used to purchase additional air defense equipment.

The Norwegian government's press service reported this.

Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik announced the allocation of new assistance at the Ramstein format meeting.

At a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, he stated that air defense is Ukraine's highest-priority military need and is crucial for protecting both military and civilian infrastructure.

"In 2024, Norway allocated more than 6 billion Norwegian kroner to Ukraine for air defense.

The government recently decided to allocate an additional 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner (about $110 million) for air defense measures for Ukraine," the minister noted.

The funds will purchase air defense equipment in the United States under the JUMPSTART program.

It is worth noting that Norway has been helping Ukraine since the very beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. The country has joined the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and provides military assistance.

At yesterday's "Ramstein," the Norwegian Minister of Defense announced that Norway is joining the drone coalition created to help Ukraine.

It is worth adding that Norway has also joined the aviation coalition, providing Ukraine with F-16 fighters.

For reference:

As Rubryka wrote, the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (in the Ramstein format) was held in Brussels on February 12. The Secretary of State for Defense of the United Kingdom, John Healey, headed it. The new US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, also participated.

Healey was chairing the Ramstein format meeting in Brussels for the first time. During the opening of the meeting, he stated that the main task of this format is to provide a force component for achieving peace in Ukraine.

On February 12, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth arrived at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance. He made a statement on the role of NATO.

Within the framework of Ramstein, the United Kingdom is allocating a new package of defense assistance to Ukraine. This will include tanks, artillery, missiles, and other types of weapons, as well as contracts for the maintenance of previously delivered equipment.

Following the Ramstein in Brussels, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov said the meeting was productive, compelling aid packages were received, and this format will continue.
