United to win: Finland announces new €200 mln aid package for Ukraine
Finnish President Alexander Stubb has approved a decision to provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth almost 200 million euros.
Yle reported that.
This is Ukraine's 27th batch of military equipment. The cost of replacing the equipment in this batch for Finland is estimated at approximately 198 million euros.
The total cost of Finnish defense equipment Finland has already provided Ukraine is 2.5 billion euros.
"This package, worth almost 200 million euros, has been developed in close cooperation with the Ukrainians.
We are providing exactly the support that will help Ukraine defend itself in an acute situation on the front," Defense Minister Antti Häkkinen said.
No details regarding the exact content, method, and timing are being disclosed for operational reasons and to ensure the safe delivery of the aid.
When providing the aid, Ukraine's needs and the resource situation in the Defense Forces were considered.
"It depends on us, the Europeans, how security in Europe will develop. Ensuring Ukraine's independence and defense capabilities is now the most important part of this whole matter," Häkkiänen explained.
As reported in December, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Finland had approved Ukraine's 26th defense support package and had already begun to form the next one.
For reference:
On November 12, Ukraine and Finland signed a Framework Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Finland on projects financed under the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Fund (FUIF) program.
As part of the Agreement, loans of up to 50 million euros are planned for 2025. Further implementation of the Program will involve concluding relevant loan agreements to determine the volume, terms, and conditions of loans.
Ukraine has proposed that Sweden and Finland support its defense industry by directly financing manufacturers, similar to the "Danish model."
Moreover, in September, Finland also announced a new assistance package for Ukraine in the amount of 118 million euros.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Finland has been actively supporting Ukraine in the humanitarian, financial, and military-technical spheres.
Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Alexander Stubb signed a bilateral security agreement in April. The agreement provides for long-term support from Helsinki and deepens cooperation between the two countries.
