Solutions from Ukraine: Ukrainian Fashion Week launches program to address growing need for adaptive clothing due to war injuries
Ukrainian Fashion Week has announced the launch of the "Clothing with Function" program to address an important social issue: the rising number of injuries among military and civilians due to the war in Ukraine. These injuries impact their daily comfort and must be considered in clothing design.
Ukrainian Fashion Week reported this.
What is the problem?
"The war plunged us into a reality in which the design of adaptive clothing is becoming one of the industry's priorities. We live in a country where inclusivity is our responsibility, our need, our new norm," Iryna Danylevska, co-founder and CEO of Ukrainian Fashion Week, noted.
What is the solution?
As they say, clothing with function goes beyond convenience; it's about confidence, independence, and dignity.
"Adaptive fashion is not a compromise, but an evolution that drives the industry. It does not just break down barriers between different communities of people, but also significantly expands the market, firstly, by giving agency to people with disabilities, and secondly, by setting universal standards of comfort and accessibility that are beneficial for everyone," Svitla Volka, CEO of SVD Denim, emphasizes.
How does it work?
The initiative covers clothing that one can easily put on, regardless of injuries or prostheses. Such clothing takes into account the needs of people with injuries to hands, legs, or eyes or those who use prostheses and assistive devices.
The organizers mention that you can register for the educational program, scheduled from February 14 to 16 in the NewGen Lab space at the Mystetsky Arsenal, via the provided link.
A series of events will be held there:
- Lecture "Fashion without Barriers: Adaptive Clothing and Modern Design."
- Panel discussion "Clothing with function as a current fashion trend in Ukraine."
- Public talk "Algorithm for creating adaptive solutions: experience, community, research results."
Participation in the program is free of charge upon prior registration.
