On January 15, President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to Poland to meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The Polish Prime Minister's office reported this.

As noted in the government information center, Tusk will meet with Zelensky on January 15 in Warsaw.

The purpose of the meeting was not announced.

It is worth noting that Poland, replacing Hungary, took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2025, and will continue until July 1 of this year.

In turn, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Warsaw expects to use the Polish presidency to strengthen its position as one of the five most important EU countries.

The Polish official also announced the key goals of the presidency:

  • Strengthening defense infrastructure: in particular, the Eastern Shield initiative.
  • Using frozen Russian assets to rebuild and support Ukraine.
  • EU enlargement: ensuring the pace and quality of integration of Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans.

Ukraine has high expectations from the Polish presidency and, after that, Denmark. President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that the Polish and Danish presidency in 2025 should be historic for Ukraine.

The president emphasized that Ukraine needs to join the European Union. Therefore, next year, Ukrainians must put in maximum effort during the negotiation process and strengthen relations with EU partners.

He also announced that Poland will ensure the "pace and quality" of the EU's expansion to the east and south, both in part of Ukraine and part of Moldova and the Western Balkans.
