A factory for manufacturing drones will be established in Finland. It will meet the demands for UAVs in Ukraine and the European Union.

The press service of Summa Defense reported that.

The primary objective of the new facility is to quickly increase the production capabilities of drones utilized in combat operations in Ukraine and begin mass production in Finland and Europe.

The start of mass production of drones is planned for the first half of 2025.

"The demand for unmanned technologies and production capabilities is high. Drones will be supplied not only to Ukraine but also to the countries of the European Union and NATO.

They will become an important element of civil, defense, and security systems," said Jussi Holopainen, CEO of Summa Defense Ltd.

Summa Defense is creating a subsidiary company, Summa Drones Ltd, to implement the project, which will head a joint venture with Ukrainian partners.

Among the participants of the Ukrainian side are the following companies:

  • Kort,
  • Elf Systems,
  • Skyassist,
  • MPS Development.

Production will include not only aerial but also ground and sea drones.

The creation of a plant in Finland is considered a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the reliability of supplies of unmanned systems in Ukraine and internationally.

"Drones have already proven their strategic importance in Ukraine, playing a key role in the protection of critical infrastructure and rescue operations.

The new production will increase the stability of supply chains," Holopainen added.

It is noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has significantly increased the volume of defense production, including the production of drones, artillery shells, and other weapons.

In particular, Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, recently announced scaling up the serial production of modernized Neptune missiles, which can be used at longer distances.

For reference:

On November 12, Ukraine and Finland signed a Framework Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Finland on projects financed under the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Fund (FUIF) program.

Within the framework of the Agreement, loans of up to 50 million euros are planned for 2025. Further implementation of the Program will involve concluding relevant loan agreements to determine the volume, terms, and conditions of loans.

Ukraine also proposed to Sweden and Finland that it support the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex by directly financing manufacturers, following the example of the "Danish model."

In addition, Ukraine and Finland jointly created the Civil Protection Coalition to develop a system of modern shelters.

Moreover, Finland also announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth 118 million euros in September.
