Solutions from Ukraine: STEM is FEM introduces innovative cybersecurity education program for girls
STEM is FEM is launching a curriculum called "Cybersecurity for Girls: Exploring Opportunities and Careers." From December 2024 to March 2025, high school and college students will have the chance to learn how to safeguard themselves online and pave a path into cybersecurity.
STEM is FEM reports this.
What is the problem?
In the modern digital environment, cyber threats are becoming increasingly pervasive. In 2023, TikTok users from Ukraine encountered numerous phishing attacks, while many refugees fell prey to deceitful advertisements offering assistance. Given these challenges, there is a growing demand for knowledge in safeguarding personal information and developing digital literacy.
What is the solution?
The STEM is FEM educational ecosystem is proud to announce the launch of a new curriculum, "Cybersecurity for Girls: Opportunities and Careers." This program is designed for girls between the ages of 16 and 21, focusing on introducing them to the exciting world of cybersecurity. Through this curriculum, students can explore potential career paths, hear inspiring stories of successful women in the industry, and discover educational resources and opportunities.
How does it work?
The first online workshop will take place on December 4, 6:00 PM. Register here.
To give girls the necessary tools, STEM is FEM offers a series of workshops and practical classes. During the program, participants will learn:
- recognize cyber threats (phishing, fraud in social networks and messengers);
- protect their data (create strong passwords, two-factor authentication);
- ensure online safety in social networks and the world of AI, resist cyberbullying, and avoid dangerous situations.
Leading Ukrainian and foreign experts on the topic of cybersecurity were involved in the creation of the project.
"Cybersecurity is not only about technical skills but also about critical thinking in the digital environment," shares Ukrainian IT entrepreneur and co-founder of the Roosh investment group Serhii Tokarev. "We strive to give girls the tools that will allow them to recognize threats in the digital world, protect their data, and build a career in the promising field of cybersecurity."
