Estonia announces new military aid package for Ukraine
The Estonian government has approved Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur's proposal to send a new military aid package to Ukraine.
Rubryka reports, citing Estonia's Ministry of Defense.
"Ukraine is approaching 1,000 days of defending its freedom against an unyielding aggressor. It still requires the support of Estonia and the free world to continue this fight," said Pevkur.
The aid package will come from the reserves of the Estonian Defense Forces, carefully assembled to meet Ukraine's needs while ensuring Estonia's defense capabilities remain intact.
The new Estonian military aid package for Ukraine will include:
- naval uniforms,
- surveillance devices,
- sights,
- ballistic protection equipment,
- various types of ammunition.
"This package is not the last. Soon, we will launch an annual support program for Estonian companies on a competitive basis, enabling Ukraine to receive assistance in producing Estonian defense industry products. This will support Ukraine while also boosting Estonia's economy and security," added Pevkur.
On November 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Pevkur, who confirmed the new aid package for Ukraine's Armed Forces.
Key topics discussed during the meeting included:
- Ukraine's urgent defense needs,
- assistance in equipping new units.
Pevkur also emphasized that the winter-ready package will include uniforms for Ukrainian soldiers.
Estonia's assistance
Ukraine is set to receive air defense missiles from an Estonian company, designed specifically to counter drones.
Additionally, Ukraine's Ministry of Health is collaborating with the Estonian Center for International Development (ESTDEV) and the Tallinn College of Health Care on two training programs for Ukrainian rehabilitation specialists, launched in October 2023.
Estonia is also exploring the possibility of purchasing Ukrainian defense products, including long-range missiles. While export bans are currently in place due to the ongoing war, there may be ways to navigate these restrictions.
