Sybiha and Blinken discuss additional US military assistance for Ukraine
During his visit to Belgium on November 13, Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, held crucial talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Brussels.
Rubryka reports, citing Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two diplomats focused on several key topics:
- Enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities,
- Strengthening the country's air defense in preparation for winter,
- The need for long-range weapons for Ukraine's Defense Forces,
- Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration efforts,
- Working towards a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace.
Minister Sybiha briefed Blinken on the devastating impact of Russia's large-scale night attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, which involved 96 drones and missiles, including ballistic ones. He condemned the attacks on civilians, emphasizing that Russia's actions were clear war crimes targeting innocent people, including families and children.
Sybiha underlined the urgency of continuing Ukraine's defense efforts, as Russia persistently targets critical infrastructure such as energy systems, ports, hospitals, and schools. He called for the acceleration of decisions from Ukraine's international partners to bolster its defense and protect its people from ongoing threats.
In this context, Sybiha stated that the critical moment has come not only for Ukraine, but also for a number of other regions of the world. According to the minister, the future of transatlantic and global security is currently being decided in Ukraine.
"Russia is using Iranian drones, North Korean ballistic missiles, and troops to attack Ukraine. In response, the Kremlin provides aid to these regimes. This is how this war undermines security in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. It's all connected," he said.
The Ukrainian diplomat emphasized that in order to ensure long-term peace and stability in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, allies must force Russia to stop its aggression. He added that partners can achieve a just peace only through unity and strength.
"Appeasement will not work. Force will work," the Minister emphasized.
The parties also coordinated further steps after the US presidential election. Sybiha expressed his sincere gratitude to Anthony Blinken for the unprecedented assistance of the USA to the Ukrainian people, as well as for his personal efforts in mobilizing the world in support of Ukraine.
