Canadian PM urges to double efforts to support Ukraine

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at the ministerial conference on the human dimension of the "peace formula" in Montreal that Russia is trying to exhaust Ukraine's forces by causing war fatigue in its international partners, so Kyiv's partners should redouble their efforts to support it.

Ukrinform writes about this.

"In these challenging times – and make no mistake, every democracy in the world is right now facing challenging times – it would be convenient, and certainly some say, we have our own problems at home; we can't keep up our support for Ukraine. But that's exactly what the Kremlin wants.

They [Russia] have a long view of history. They have no issue sending thousands of their citizens to die while waiting us out. That's why we must all double down," Trudeau said.

He emphasized that for the Russian dictator Putin, the invasion of Ukraine was "a mistake after a mistake."

"He definitely did not take into account one factor: the strength, resilience, and courage of the Ukrainian people. After nearly a thousand days [since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war– ed.], your resolve has never been stronger. Your belief in a free, democratic, secure, and proud Ukraine is unwavering, and the coming victory will be yours. It will be all of ours," the Prime Minister of Canada is convinced.

For reference:

A two-day thematic conference on the fourth component of the Ukrainian Peace Formula, "Release of Prisoners and Deported Persons," began in Montreal on Wednesday. Representatives from approximately 70 countries and international organizations are attending.

Canada and Norway organized the event as co-chairs of the working group on the implementation of this point. It is expected that a joint communique will be adopted at the end of the conference.

As Rubryka wrote, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky presented Ukraine's 10-point plan for achieving peace with Russia during his speech to the attendees of the "Group of 20."

The peace formula includes 10 points:

  • Radiation and nuclear safety.
  • Food safety.
  • Energy security.
  • Release of all prisoners and deportees.
  • Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the world order.
  • Withdrawal of Russian troops and cessation of hostilities.
  • Restoring justice.
  • Anti-ecocide.
  • Avoiding escalation.
  • Fixing the end of the war.

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen said his country supports the Ukrainian peace formula.

In turn, the head of the European Commission stated that the peace formula should be the starting point for ending the war in Ukraine.
