Ukrainian jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh became the best track and field athlete of 2024 in Europe. The athlete won a prize at the European Athlete of the Year Award ceremony.

Rubryka refers to the live broadcast of the European Athletics.

In addition to Mahuchikh, the final three contenders for the award included two runners –Femke Bol from the Netherlands and Keely Hodgkinson from the UK.

It is worth noting that in 2022 and 2023, Mahuchikh reached the final of the nomination, but this year she won for the first time.

In general, this is the second time in history, Ukrainians have been awarded the best track and field athlete in Europe. The high jumper Bohdan Bondarenko won it in the men's category in 2013. Then he became the world champion.

This year, Mahuchikh is also claiming the distinction of the world's best track and field athlete in non-running disciplines. World Athletics will determine the three finalists of the nomination in early November.

For reference:

The Ukrainian track and field athlete distinguished herself not only with a world record during the year, but also won her first gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris, conquering a height of 2.00 meters.

In addition, she won the prestigious series of competitions – the Diamond League and the UEFA European Championship – for the third time in a row.
