Russia launches drone attack on residential sector in Sumy, killing three, including a child
Three people, including a child, were killed when Russian invaders launched attack drones on a private residential area in Sumy on the night of October 22.
The Acting Mayor of Sumy Artem Kobzar and the Air Force of Ukraine's armed forces reported that.
According to the military, the Russian invaders deployed kamikaze drones on the evening of October 21. Initially, hostile UAVs were detected in the Sumy and Poltava regions.
At 00:44 a.m., the drones were navigating through the western and southern areas of the Sumy region and were continuously altering their trajectory.
At 05:29 a.m., the Air Force issued a warning about enemy drones flying along the border of the Poltava and Sumy regions. They were heading south.
According to Kobzar, the invaders used attack drones in Sumy to target the private residential areas. Hostile drones hit a residential building. The State Emergency Service rescue team was working on the spot.
Oleksii Drozdenko, the Sumy City Military Administration head, also confirmed the impact on residential structures. According to his report, the emergency response center will commence operations at 9:00 a.m. in School No. 27.
The Sumy Regional Military Administration later specified that civilians were killed as a result of the attack by Russian troops.
"The consequences of the enemy attack are being clarified. Unfortunately, there are civilian casualties. Emergency and rescue services are working," the message said.
Later, they added that three people had died, including a child.
"Three people, including one child, died as a result of enemy drones hitting residential buildings in the private sector of the regional center at night," the regional military administration said.
