Solutions to win: Lviv region hosts unique same surname football showdown to benefit armed forces and make national record
A one-of-a-kind football championship for people with the same surname was recently held in the village of Yosypovychi, located in the Stryi district of the Lviv region. Vasyl Levko, an esteemed member of the local football community, organized It.
The Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration reported that.
A unique sports competition took place on September 29 at the Arena stadium, recorded in the Book of Records of Ukraine.
Four teams participated in the F-1 championship, each of which united players with the same surnames:
- Fedoryna,
- Popadiuk,
- Yurkiv,
- Drozd.
In the third-place match, "F-1 Drozd" team defeated "F-1 Fedoryna" with a score of 2:1.
The tournament champion was the "F-1 Popadiuk" team, which defeated "F-1 Yurkiv" in the final with the minimum score.
Vasyl Levko, the organizer of the championship, expressed hope that the tournament will become an annual celebration of football involving even more teams with the same surnames.
"There are great hopes that the football holiday, which took place on September 29, 2024, will become unforgettable in the life of every ardent fan and football fan of our region. I am convinced that the Ukrainian football championship among F-1 category teams will become an annual event with the participation of more same-surname teams," he noted.
Besides the competitive aspect, the championship also had a philanthropic element—20,000 hryvnias were raised to aid Ukraine's armed forces.
