Russian forces bomb 5-story building in Kharkiv, causing casualties and possible trapped victims
Last night, October 2, during an air raid, the Russian forces launched an attack on Kharkiv using guided aerial bombs. This resulted in a devastating hit on a 5-story residential building, causing a fire to break out. As of this morning, ten casualties were reported, including a three-year-old child, and there could still be people trapped under the rubble of the building.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, President Zelensky, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Chairman Oleh Synehubov, and the State Emergency Service reported that on Telegram.
"One of the guided aerial bombs hit a residential high-rise building. Information is being gathered about the victims," the city's head initially reported.
There's a fire at the site of the strike in a multi-story building. Terekhov also mentioned that the building and a nearby car were both on fire.
Synehubov reported that the enemy struck a five-story building, hitting the third and fourth floors. Around ten cars were seen on fire, and rescuers are currently evacuating residents. Efforts to put out the fire and locate individuals are still underway.
Later, the regional leader mentioned that a three-year-old girl was among the casualties. All are in fair or stable condition.
Late at night, President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the Russian assault on Kharkiv and released a video showcasing the aftermath.
"Kharkiv, Saltivka, an ordinary residential building hit by a Russian bomb.
The rescue operation is now underway. A search is underway for all those who may have been injured. At this time, about eight were wounded. All will be provided with the necessary assistance.
Ukraine must receive the necessary help from the international community and its allies to stop these Russian attacks. Every leader understands what actions need to be taken. It is crucial to act with determination," the head of state wrote.
Later, Terekhov mentioned that people living in nearby buildings whose apartments were affected by the explosion are also being asked to leave. The city will arrange accommodations for anyone who wants to stay in the dormitories.

"Hundreds of broken windows cut off the electricity to five houses. A gathering will be held near the strike site where residents can drink hot tea and have a snack," the city's head emphasized.
In addition, according to him, the number of victims has increased to ten. Among them is a three-year-old child.
Synehubov, in turn, added that there may be people under the rubble of the building destroyed by the occupiers. The rescue operation is ongoing.
According to reports from emergency personnel, the front exterior and four units on the fourth and fifth floors sustained severe damage. Additionally, the structure and two cars, covering approximately 65 square meters, were engulfed in flames.
"Rescuers of the State Emergency Service managed to completely extinguish a fire with an area of 65 square meters in a 5-story residential building, which was hit by a Russian-guided aerial bomb. Emergency and rescue operations at the site of the impact are ongoing," they said.
On the morning of October 3, the Russians struck the suburbs of Kharkiv and damaged high-voltage transmission lines.
"As a result of the latest attack on the suburbs, high-voltage transmission lines were damaged. Because of this, there may be power outages in some areas of Kharkiv," Terekhov emphasized.
