Ukraine's government has passed a resolution that permits private schools to obtain licenses to train drone operators, allowing them to work legally.

The Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, announced that.

What is the problem?

As noted by the ministry's head, the need for skilled drone operators is continually increasing. As a result, military units are seeking individuals with this expertise, highlighting the need for educational institutions to offer top-quality training.

"Since the beginning of the full-scale war, dozens of private training centers for UAV pilots have appeared in Ukraine, but there is no unified system for regulating their activities," Fedorov wrote.

How is the solution?

As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the day before, the government launched an experimental project to certify schools of UAV operators.

"We are establishing clear requirements for these schools and unifying the educational process. It will be easier for trained drone operators to obtain the appropriate military accounting specialty," the head of the government noted.

How does it work?

Now, educational institutions can obtain a certificate and officially train operators.

To obtain a license, an educational institution must:

  • conduct training on the control or manufacture of drones;
  • use more than three drones for pilot training and certification;
  • develop training programs for training pilots on these devices;
  • hire more than three certified instructors to conduct training.

As Fedorov notes, after successfully passing the exams, drone operators can take up relevant positions in military units of all parts of the Security and Defense Forces.

"The decree will allow to work only those institutions that provide real practical knowledge that will help at the front," the minister clarified.

For reference:

It should be noted that a drone control school has been established within the Third Assault Brigade, offering education to both civilians and military members.
