Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit a 155mm artillery shell plant in Pennsylvania on Sunday, which produces one of the most critical munitions for Ukraine's fight against Russian forces.

The Associated Press reports this, citing informants.

According to the media outlet, this visit marks the start of Zelensky's busy week in the United States, focused on bolstering international support in the war against Russian aggression.

Zelensky will tour the army ammunition plant in Scranton, where 155mm artillery shells, essential for military operations, are produced.

This visit will occur ahead of his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, as well as his meetings with US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington.

The Scranton plant is one of the few facilities in the United States that produces 155mm shells for howitzer systems. These systems are vital for Ukrainian forces in countering Russian ground troops over long distances.

Since the start of the war, the United States has supplied Ukraine with over 3 million 155mm rounds to aid its defense efforts.

Zelensky is expected to be joined at the plant by two Pentagon leaders who played key roles in boosting production:

  • Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology Doug Bush
  • The Pentagon's chief weapons buyer, Bill LaPlante
  • Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro

Zelensky's visit to the US

Earlier, Rubryka reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the United States next week, where he plans to present his "victory plan" to President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and presidential candidate Donald Trump.

It's worth noting that the 79th session of the UN General Assembly began in New York on September 10. From September 24 to 28, and again on September 30, high-level general debates will take place. The theme for this year's debate is "Leaving no one behind: acting together for peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations."

The Ukrainian delegation will also participate in the Assembly, with the head of the delegation expected to speak on the morning of September 25.

Zelensky will address the UN General Assembly in New York before traveling to Washington for talks with President Biden and Vice President Harris on Thursday.
