The UAnimals humanist movement and pet store chain MasterZoo have joined forces to launch the Paw of Care initiative, aimed at sterilizing animals in frontline cities and villages without access to veterinary clinics.

The organizers of the action reported that.

What is the problem?

After the Kyiv region was liberated, news emerged of severely damaged shelters, starvation-related deaths, and wounded and abandoned animals. In addition, animals in the nearby areas, particularly those close to the front, continue to suffer from hunger and die.

Furthermore, sterilization became a major issue in Ukraine during the full-scale war, with a 20-30% increase in the population of stray dogs in shelters and under the care of volunteers, in frontline regions –  a 60% increase among animal volunteers and a 100% among shelters (according to UAnimals data).

What is the solution?

According to the organizers, sterilization is the most effective way to reduce the chaotic reproduction of homeless animals, prevent them from developing diseases, and prolong their lives, say the organizers.

How does it work?

Thanks to the vet mobile, UAnimals can offer medical assistance to villages and towns on the front line. The mobile unit enables veterinarians to access even the most remote parts of Ukraine.

The car contains all the necessary equipment to sterilize and treat animals. The money collected within the Paw of Care will help provide such trips with everything necessary, from veterinary drugs to operating expenses.

One can become part of the collection by purchasing a sticker for 20 hryvnias (with unlimited quantity) at MasterZoo pet stores or on the website.

Furthermore, if the person uses a Visa card from Sense Bank to make the payment, the bank will raise the donation amount by an additional 30 hryvnias. In this way, 50 hryvnias will be contributed to the charity.

The fundraiser will last until October 31, 2024.

The collected funds will be transferred to the fund.

For reference:

As Rubryka previously wrote, the research results revealed that 82% of Ukrainians view sterilization as an effective method for combating the excessive reproduction of stray animals.

It should be noted that the YeKutochok service has been launched in the capital. Thanks to this service, pet owners, volunteers, and guardians of homeless animals will be able to find temporary shelter for their wards.

Moreover, Zoopatrol UA is a one-of-a-kind animal shelter in Ukraine. They handle the most challenging cases in their veterinary clinic and send animals abroad. Warm floors in their enclosures are just one of the many things that set them apart from others. Rubryka recently spoke with a Ukrainian producer and his team about how they established this remarkable shelter during the seven-month war.
