On the night of September 10, Russia renewed its complaints about attack drones. Reports indicate unidentified drones were flying towards Moscow, the country's capital. The "Kovyor" plan to intercept them was revealed at a briefing held at Moscow's Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and Russian propaganda channels report that.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the air defense forces successfully neutralized almost 150 drones in multiple regions of the Russian Federation during the night.

So, according to the Russian military's report, they were able to "destroy and intercept" 144 Ukrainian drones during the night.

As per the statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Air Defense Forces operated in nine different areas, including the Moscow region, where they reportedly intercepted 72 UAVs. Mainly, they shot down:

  • 20 drones in the Moscow region,
  • 14 in the Kursk region,
  • 13 in the Tula region,
  • 8 in the Belgorod region,
  • 7 in the Kaluga region,
  • 5 in the Voronezh region,
  • 4 in the Lipetsk region,
  • and one in the Oryol region of Russia.

Moscow and the Moscow region

According to Russian state-run Telegram channels, the "Kovyor" plan was announced at Moscow's Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports, resulting in all departing and arriving flights being redirected to different airports.

The attacks on the suburbs of Moscow caused the most incredible sense of panic in the Russian Federation. The Russian media began reporting on them during the night.

Later, Russian media reported that there was a fire in a high-rise building in Ramenskyi, located in the Moscow region, following a drone attack. It is suspected that the Russian aggressors' air defense system may have taken down the unmanned aerial vehicle just above the building, causing it to crash and resulting in a fire in the high-rise.

Afterward, Russian news outlets covered an alleged "drone strike" on a different tall building in Ramenskyi. According to the propagandists, this led to five people in the community being hurt by shrapnel.

TASS reported on the deceased child and only one injured person in the Moscow region. Later, another media publication denied the child's death, claiming that the information was unconfirmed. Instead, it stated that a 46-year-old woman had died and three other Russians were injured.

Furthermore, according to propagandists, the remains of the drone landed on a private residence in Moscow's Troitsky administrative district. No one was hurt there.

Meanwhile, in areas where the Russian air defense did not intervene and disrupt the trajectory of Ukrainian drones, they were headed towards their intended targets not Russian skyscrapers, but perhaps the international airport "Zhukovsky" (also referred to as Ramenskyi airport).

According to Russian media, the airport "has been shut down for flight arrivals and departures due to an ongoing UAV attack that started on Tuesday night."

Russian propagandists have also released a video of a drone resembling an aircraft flying over a populated area in the Moscow region, followed by an explosion. The only sound audible in the video is the drone's motor, with no evidence of the Russian air defense system at work.

The Russians left hysterical comments below this video, voicing their concern over the absence of the promised reliable Russian air defense system to cover both Moscow and the surrounding region.

They are also furious about the lack of notifications regarding the threat, as well as the fact that after almost three years of intense war, the Russian command has not been able to train their soldiers to handle even primary weapons with anti-aircraft capabilities.

As evident from the comments, some Russians felt that the adrenaline rush from the nighttime drone attack was not enough and they are calling for the deployment of nuclear weapons.

The mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, claims that drones flying into the city were shot down in the Lyubertsy, Podolsk, and Ramenskyi districts.

He said that a drone was shot down in Lyubertsy, two in Ramenskyi district, and reportedly four in Podolsk. He also mentioned that there were no damages or casualties where the debris fell.

In the meantime, footage of drones in the Moscow region and air defense activities was released online. Warning: The video contains explicit language.

Propagandists also wrote that a series of explosions rang out in Zhukovsky near Moscow. Witnesses heard at least ten loud blasts. Debris from one of the downed drones fell on the roadway of one of the streets.

Bryansk region

At the same time, the Bryansk region also expressed concern over the drone attack. The region's governor, Oleksandr Bogomaz, declared that the Russian air defense forces had successfully intercepted and destroyed 59 UAVs.

Lipetsk region

According to propagandists, drones were supposedly shot down in the Yeletsky, Lipetsk, and Volovsky municipal districts in the Lipetsk region.

Tula region

According to Russian media, two drones were destroyed in the Tula region. Debris fell on a facility of the fuel and energy complex, but no one was hurt, and the provision of resources to consumers was not disrupted.

Kaluga region

The Russian Air Defense Forces were also active in the Kaluga region. They reported the elimination of 7 UAVs in the districts of Zhukov, Maloyaroslavets, and Dzerzhyn, stating that no casualties or damage had occurred.

On the night of September 1, drones attacked ten regions of Russia.
