Russia launches night attack on Kyiv and Kharkiv with UAVs and guided aerial bombs
On the evening of September 8, the Russian military deployed a Shahed-type attack drone. Air defense units were activated in the Kyiv region, and two strikes were reported in Kharkiv, resulting in a fire. Due to technical issues, Ukrzaliznytsia altered train routes until morning.
The Air Force, Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov, Kyiv City Military Administration reported that.
At around 23:00, the UAV team was near the border of Kharkiv and Sumy regions. Enemy targets were heading west.
According to the military, drones from the Sumy region flew to the Poltava region later. Russian UAVs were heading towards the Kyiv region.
Kyiv and the region
At 00:36, the Kyiv City Military Administration leader, Serhii Popko, warned of a UAV threat to Kyiv and advised residents to seek shelter.
Moreover, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration stated that the air defense forces were active in the region.
Later, Popko specified that this was the fifth air attack on the capital in September.
"Last night, the Russian army once again utilized attack drones, previously of the Shahed model, launched from the Kursk region. Multiple rounds of barrage ammunition reached Kyiv after midnight," he wrote.
He said that the air raid alarm in Kyiv had lasted for over an hour. But, thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian air defense forces, all Russian attack drones were destroyed before reaching the capital.
Based on the initial data, the city was without any damage or casualties.
"As you can see, we have air raid alerts almost every night. These alerts are a result of genuine threats! So, I'm urging you to be responsible whenever there's a danger announcement, don't ignore the rules, and always seek shelter. Please take care of yourself," Popko urged.

Kharkiv region
According to Kharkiv's Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the Russians have launched several guided aerial bombs, resulting in a strike in the city.
"According to initial data, the city was hit by multiple aerial bombs guided towards it. Details regarding the casualties are currently being gathered. One of the strikes has resulted in a fire at its location," he wrote.
Terekhov mentioned that some private homes were damaged in the Kyiv district of Kharkiv due to a guided aerial bomb attack. He clarified that the garage and surrounding plants caught fire after the impact.
According to Oleh Synehubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, the strike also affected the Malodanylivska community.
"Another hit was recorded in the Malodanylivska community. Four private houses were damaged. There were no casualties," he wrote.
For reference:
On the night of September 9, an air raid siren sounded in Kyiv and across several regions in Ukraine due to approaching enemy UAVs. The air defense forces in the Kyiv region promptly took action, and explosions could also be heard in the city.
Because of technical issues, Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukrainian Railways – ed.] has altered the train routes initially scheduled to pass through the Fastiv–2 – Bila Tserkva – Myronivka section until morning. A temporary new route has been established, going through the stations of Fastiv–1, Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi, Trypillia, and Myronivka.
Russia is bombing Kharkiv nearly every day with guided aerial bombs, attack drones, and missiles. Due to the limited air defense equipment and lack of authorization from Western nations to strike deep into Russian territory with the weapons they have provided, Ukraine is struggling to stop the bombardment of Kharkiv.
It should be noted that on the night of September 8, Russia launched four Kh-59 missiles and more than 20 Shahed UAVs over Ukraine. Air defense shot down one missile and 15 enemy drones.
It was also reported that on the night of September 7, the Russian army released 67 attack drones over Ukraine. Air defense forces destroyed most of the enemy Shaheds.
