Solutions from Ukraine: philanthropists launch Ukraine's first-ever magazine for parents of children with disabilities
Philanthropists in Ukraine have launched the country's inaugural magazine, which caters to parents of children with disabilities. This marks the first-ever publication of its kind in Ukraine.
What is the problem?
Raising children with disabilities presents many challenges for parents. To ensure the well-rounded development of their children, they must possess a wide range of skills, from selecting appropriate foods to facilitating their child's social integration at school. Unfortunately, they often struggle to find the necessary support and guidance to ease the parenting journey and address the numerous questions that arise.
What is the solution?
The Epiprosvita NGO and the World for Ukrainians charity fund, under the "Siavo" project, are introducing a magazine specifically for parents caring for children with disabilities titled "Siavo." This magazine will provide parenting advice, stories from authors, and responses to frequently asked questions.
How does it work?
The initiative included mothers who shared their experiences of balancing work, business, and parenthood. Rubryka learned more about their stories.
"There has been a stigma in Ukrainian society for years that the birth of a child with a disability necessarily puts an end to the life and career of their mothers. However, during the five years of my own experience raising a daughter with a disability, I met a considerable number of inspired, successful, and fascinating mothers.
We decided to make a magazine that would show a happy life, opportunities, and development for those who are still looking for their own path to self-realization and happiness," Niya Nickel, project manager and founder of the Epiprosvita NGO, shares on the organization's blog.
In the magazine, readers will discover guidance from psychologists, rehabilitation specialists, nutritionists, and other experts. Specifically, the inaugural edition features articles on selecting comfortable adaptive clothing for individuals with disabilities, preparing a healthy and fast breakfast, and other helpful tips to simplify and enhance the learning process.
