United to win: Ukraine places order with Rheinmetall for ammunition factory construction
The German defense giant Rheinmetall is preparing to create a new enterprise in Ukraine in the short term.
The press service of the armaments company reported that.
As previously mentioned, the German defense company Rheinmetall has received an order from the Ukrainian government to build an ammunition plant. This announcement was made in February.
"The order for Rheinmetall Technology Group, based in Dusseldorf, covers the complete technical equipment of the plant before commissioning," the company emphasized.
It is expected that the implementation of the project will begin in the short term. The production of ammunition will begin within 24 months.
The exact value of the deal is not specified, Rheinmetall describes the amount as "low three-digit million euro" (that is more than 100 million euros).
It is reported that the enterprise should produce artillery shells of 155 mm caliber, in particular projectile charges. Exact production volumes have not been specified, but it will be a "six-figure number," no less than 100,000 munitions per year.
"We are turning our words into reality and, together with our partner, will create a Ukrainian munitions production center. The order emphasizes our trust in the experience and production capacity of Rheinmetall. We are grateful for the opportunity to support the country in its reindustrialization and strengthening of defense capabilities," Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, said.
The German concern "Rheinmetall AG" signed a memorandum with Ukraine on the expansion of strategic cooperation, which aims to define and develop further directions of closer cooperation.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Strategic Industry, noted that "the Ukrainian defense industry has been in decline for decades, but today it is reviving and making a significant contribution to the recovery of Ukraine's economy – including thanks to such partners as Rheinmetall."

For reference:
The Federal Antimonopoly Office of Germany allowed Rheinmetall to create a joint venture with Ukraine at the end of September. It was reported that the company would be based in Kyiv.
It was also previously reported that the German concern Rheinmetall is negotiating the construction of a tank plant in Ukraine.
On June 11, it was reported that the first joint workshop of the Ukrainian Defense Industry [Ukroboronprom] enterprise and Rheinmetall had begun work in Ukraine, where armored vehicles will be repaired and manufactured.
It is important to note that Rheinmetall is actively helping Ukraine in the war against Russia by supplying ammunition and various equipment. In particular, the concern recently received a new order for artillery shells for Ukraine.
