Eco-solutions: Eco-solutions: Odesa region launches fruit tree seed collection to restore forest strips

The Horodna community in the Bolhrad district of the Odesa region has launched a new project called "Green Steppe – The Future is Ours." As a part of this initiative, there will be an ecological event to collect fruit tree seeds.

"Bessarabia INFORM" reports this, referring to the Horodna village council.

What is the problem?

The Horodna community is readily addressing environmental concerns, as the changes are becoming increasingly evident each year:

  • temperature increases,
  • weather imbalances,
  • declines in overall health and well-being,
  • reductions in productivity and economic stability.

What is the solution?

That's why the Horodna community launched the project "Green Steppe – The Future is Ours." As part of this initiative, they're planning an eco-friendly event to collect seeds from various fruit trees, such as plums, cherries, almonds, peaches, and apricots.

Right now is the ideal time to go fruit picking. When savoring a piece of fruit, especially preserving it, don't forget that the leftover seeds can offer even more benefits.

How does it work?

The community authorities invite everyone to join the ecological initiative – to collect fruit tree seeds. One can bring dried seeds to the village councils at their residence.

The community schools were also involved in the ecological movement, as the students were tasked with collecting seed material for the summer.

In the further implementation of the project, it is planned to sow seeds for:

  • restoration of forest strips,
  • greening wastelands,
  • increasing the area with perennial plantings.

"This project will make it possible to attract people's attention and conduct activities that align with the goals of sustainable development from the United Nations – the fight against climate change and the preservation of terrestrial ecosystems.

Implementation of this project will have a long-term effect on future generations.

The future of the nature of our planet and our native land depends on each of us. Therefore, we gladly invite you to join the work aimed at achieving the best results!" the village council stressed.

For reference:

It should be noted that the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian parliament – ed.] adopted the law on forest reproductive resources, which will allow Ukrainian products to be certified according to European standards. Thanks to this, Ukraine can significantly increase the export of tree seedlings to the European market.

It was also reported that decorative meadows had been planted in various districts of Kyiv, which are now reaching their full bloom and resemble "Blooming Islands."
