On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced an additional package of military support for Ukraine totaling 500 million Canadian dollars.

The Office of the President reported that.

The head of the Canadian government emphasized that his country is ready to provide the necessary medical support to victims of the Russian attack on the "Okhmatdyt" children's hospital in Kyiv.

In addition, Trudeau announced a new package of military support for Ukraine in the amount of 500 million Canadian dollars [over 360 million US dollars—ed.].

"It is essential for our people to hear this. Thank you for your help, for the additional defense package. This will strengthen our heroes on the battlefield," Zelensky said.

The leaders also discussed Ukraine's defense needs and coordinated cooperation within the fighter jets coalition.

The President spoke about the need to expand the training missions of Ukrainian pilots.

The parties exchanged views on the possibility of:

  • additional training for Ukrainian pilots on Canadian flight simulators;
  • one of the thematic meetings in Canada was held based on the results of the first Peace Summit.

For reference:

On July 10 in Washington, on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Alliance summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discuss the urgent need to supply Ukraine with additional air defense systems.

In addition, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky held the first meeting with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer. They discussed permission to utilize Storm Shadow missiles on the territory of the Russian Federation.

It is worth adding that on the sidelines of the summit, the leaders of the USA, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Romania announced the transfer to Ukraine of five Patriot and SAMP-T strategic air defense systems and the provision of dozens of tactical air defense systems in the near future.
