Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the intention to transfer 50 modern armored personnel carriers of various purposes to Ukraine during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Ottawa last September.

Canada should allocate about $500 million for the purchase and equipment of this equipment within three years.

How does it work?

According to the report, the first four of the 50 new armored fighting vehicles built by Canadian workers to be transferred to Ukraine are heading to Europe, where Ukraine's armed forces personnel will be trained in their use this summer.

In total, the first ten vehicles transferred are ACVS sanitary vehicles.

Cars are transported from the Canadian city of London in Ontario to Europe.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on September 22, 2023, during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, that Canada would invest $650 million over three years to provide Ukraine with 50 armored vehicles.

These state-of-the-art armored vehicles will perform various battlefield functions, including troop transport, secure command and control locations, and medical evacuation.

These fighting armored vehicles, also used by the Canadian army, provide high maneuverability and protection for the crew and the cargo being transported.

The Sanitation variant of ACVS is equipped with medical equipment and an interior layout that will allow for the treatment of a wide range of injuries.

The first ten vehicles will be delivered to Ukraine by autumn, allowing Ukraine's armed forces to evacuate the wounded from the combat zone safely.

The transfer is part of more than $14 billion in aid that Canada has pledged to Ukraine since February 2022, including $4 billion in military assistance.

Canada transferred to Ukraine:

  • Leopard 2 battle tanks,
  • anti-tank means,
  • howitzers M777,
  • artillery ammunition,
  • winter clothes, etc.

For reference:

In total, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Canada has already provided Ukraine with a variety of financial, humanitarian, military, and other assistance worth more than $10 billion.

It should be noted that Canada provided Ukraine with 200 Senator armored personnel carriers to help in the fight against Russian aggression.

The Canada-Ukraine Foundation also handed Ukraine 10 C-class Ford Transit 2023 ambulances, manufactured specifically for the transportation of seriously ill patients.
