The police have identified over a thousand Russian soldiers who invaded Bucha in late February 2022. Additionally, more than 100 invaders responsible for committing war crimes have also been identified.

The National Police reported this on Facebook.

"The city was under occupation for 28 days. Kidnapping, torture, rape, looting, and murder of civilians, including children, is not a complete list of what the Russian military committed there during this time. Ukrainian police officers carefully documented these war crimes for the International Criminal Court," the message reads.

The National Police investigators have already interviewed hundreds of witnesses and victims, conducted numerous interrogations, investigations, and analyses at the events scene, and reviewed terabytes of data from external surveillance cameras.

  • completed questionnaires,
  • positions held,
  • platoon and division assignments,
  • details on weaponry and equipment,
  • residential addresses,
  • contact phone numbers,
  • and even information about relatives.

"The police have already identified more than a thousand Russian soldiers who invaded Bucha at the end of February 2022. The information we received allowed us to map the movement routes of the occupiers with a specific time and place, which, in turn, made it possible to identify the presence of a specific unit at the crime scene at the time of its commission. We were able to analyze the complete structure of the occupiers' strike groups of the so-called battalion-tactical groups, the structure of their leadership, the types and demarcation of equipment and weapons," Ivan Dulkai, senior investigator of the National Police in particularly important cases, said.

Investigators have already identified more than a hundred Russian soldiers who directly committed war crimes in Bucha.

Additionally, according to the National Police, law enforcement officers are already familiar with every Russian commander who issued criminal orders to destroy Bucha and its residents.

Throughout this period, police officers have not only been documenting the actions of the Russian enemy but also analyzing their tactics and mindset. They strive to emulate Russians' behavior, objectives, and motivations to comprehend the underlying causes of these widespread offenses.

The police were able to find characteristic patterns of behavior – their analysis leads to the conclusion that the murders in the city of Bucha were not the uncontrolled behavior of individual soldiers.

"We see a clear connection between those teams of heads of units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and a large number of those killed in the city. And we are making every effort to make the Russians answer for every Ukrainian tear. The specified connection was proven and formalized as an indictment of the top leadership of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in court," Dulkai stressed.

For reference:

As reported, March 31 marks the second year since Bucha was liberated from Russian invaders. Two years prior, Bucha was released and became a powerful example of the ruthless crimes committed by Russian occupiers, causing shock throughout the world.

On April 2, Ukrainian military personnel completely freed the territory of Kyiv region from the Russian occupiers. Ukraine's armed forces returned control of Irpin, Bucha, Hostomel, and other settlements.

"Irpin, Bucha, Hostomel, and the entire Kyiv region have been liberated from the invaders," Maliar wrote on her Facebook page.

Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky honored the memory of Ukrainians whom the invaders killed during the occupation of the Bucha community.
