Russian forces shell front-line cities of Chuhuiv and Kupiansk: casualties reported, including a child
The Russian army shelled Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region overnight from March 7 to 8.
According to Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, the Russians targeted the front-line cities of Chuhuiv and Kupiansk, Rubryka reports.
Under the procedural guidance of the Chuhuiv District Prosecutor's Office of the Kharkiv region, law enforcement initiated a pre-trial investigation into the violation of laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the Russian armed forces launched a missile strike on the center of Chuhuiv at around 00:05 on March 8. A nine-story residential building, a bus station, a hotel, shops, and cars were damaged.
At 23:11, Syniehubov reported that the Russians used MLRS to shell Kupiansk.
Two civilians — a man and a woman — were killed, with details still being determined. Residential buildings were also damaged; a car caught fire.
"The debris clearance is ongoing," the statement said.
A 17-year-old boy and a 37-year-old man were injured in the attack on Chuhuiv. Authorities recorded damage to structures near the nine-story residential building, as well as to shops, a hotel, and about 13 cars.
At 7:30, the head of the regional administration announced that five people were injured in the strike on Chuhuiv.
"Five people were injured in the occupiers' strike on Chuhuiv, including a 3-year-old child," he said.
Three people were hospitalized. Two, including the child, received medical assistance on the spot.
Overnight from March 7 to 8, the Russian forces attacked Ukrainian territory with S-300 and Kh-59 missiles, as well as with 37 Shahed-type strike drones. The Ukrainian air defense forces downed 33 UAVs.
On the night of March 7, Russian troops attacked the territory of the training ground of the State Emergency Service in the Kharkiv region with drones.
