Russia has destroyed 50 art education institutions in Ukraine since beginning of full-scale war

During the full-scale invasion, Russia completely destroyed 50 institutions of art education.

The Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy, Rostyslav Karandeev, stated this during the World Conference on Education in the Field of Culture and Arts, organized by UNESCO.

"I believe that our humanitarian cooperation, aimed exclusively at peaceful goals, at the spiritual growth of people, will allow Ukrainian children and teachers, and in the future, also outstanding artists, to join the global cultural process on an equal footing and supplement it with works that will make a legacy of all humanity," he said.

The acting minister noted that currently there are 1,250 municipal art schools, six state art lyceums, 45 municipal and 14 state art colleges, academies, and universities in Ukraine. Institutions prepare professionals in the field of art and cultural management.

Rostyslav Karandeev also emphasized that Ukraine cannot fully implement educational activities due to the war. In the last two years, Russia has destroyed 48 art schools and two colleges. At the same time, 72 art schools and one state lyceum were damaged. Currently, 113 schools and six colleges are under temporary occupation. In many cases, the learning process is supported by online education.

"I hope that after the end of the war, after our victory, we will be able to fully join the huge cultural and educational heritage of Europe – to schools and universities, which today in many ways set us an example of the organization of the educational and artistic process," said Rostyslav Karandeev.

A conference in Abu Dhabi brought together relevant ministers worldwide to approve the UNESCO Framework for Education in Culture and the Arts. This document will serve as a tool for member states to form integrated strategies and policies that consolidate the cultural dimension in educational programs.
