Solutions from Ukraine: Kyiv initiative provides free taxi services for veterans with severe injuries

The Doves of Peace Charity Fund has initiated a taxi service for severely injured war veterans through the pilot project "Free Inclusive Transport for Military."

Elina Slobodianiuk reported that on Facebook.

What is the problem?

Since the onset of the full-scale war, numerous soldiers have experienced a loss of mobility, either partially or entirely, as a result of severe injuries. Consequently, many of them face difficulties with navigating the city and accessing essential services, including the use of taxis. Unfortunately, most vehicles lack the necessary accommodations for transporting individuals with limited mobility.

The Doves of Peace Charity Fund strives to ensure that Ukrainian defenders can get to medical facilities, rehabilitation centers, and other places where they receive help and support conveniently and safely.

What is the solution?

A free taxi for veterans with serious injuries has started operating in Kyiv. This taxi is adapted for the comfortable transportation of women and men in wheelchairs and one accompanying person. For this, a Volkswagen Caravella was purchased, adjusted, and equipped with a special lift to ensure entry and exit for people in wheelchairs. It has a vast and comfortable interior. The veteran or their guardians must apply.

For reference:

Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that once the war is over, there will be a significant number of Ukrainian veterans and civilians who have been affected by the war. Therefore, the government should start establishing an exemplary barrier-free environment.

As previously reported by Rubryka, an inclusive transfer was organized in Odesa for defenders who were seriously injured and now use wheelchairs.

The mission of the project, named "BezOmbezh," is free transport assistance to military personnel and veterans who need rehabilitation and medical care and cannot move around the city and use public transport on their own.

"BezOmbezh inclusive transfer" is a pilot project. It is implemented by the NGO "National Health and Safety Council" team with the financial support of the "PARAMEDIK" group of companies.
