Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia: casualties, destruction reported, people trapped under rubble
On the morning of December 29, during the widespread attack on Ukraine, the Russian army targeted the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia.
The strikes hit businesses, residential buildings, and a private house, Rubryka reports, citing Yurii Malashko, the head of the regional military administration.
"Today, between 07:30 and 08:25, the Russian military launched a massive missile strike on Zaporizhzhia. The enemy's targets included the territories of several city businesses. One missile hit an open area, while another destroyed a private house. The shockwave and debris damaged multi-story buildings in one of the city's districts," the report said.
One woman has been confirmed killed. Ten are injured.
"There may be people trapped under the rubble of one of the buildings. Emergency services are on-site," said Malashko.
Air defense systems in the Zaporizhzhia region successfully intercepted one of the Russian missiles.
Information regarding all impact sites, destruction, and casualties is currently being clarified.
Later, Anatolii Kurtiev, the secretary of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, announced that the number of casualties from the strike in the city had increased.
The body of another woman was recovered from the debris of a private house.
According to the Regional Military Administration, several businesses in Zaporizhzhia were targeted by the Russians.

Russia's Massive Attack on Ukraine
Russian forces have been launching rocket and drone-kamikaze attacks on Ukraine since last night. Explosions have been reported in several regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Odesa, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions.
In four major Ukrainian cities, buildings are on fire as a result of the attack.
In Kyiv, air defense systems were activated. Debris fell in the Podilskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts of the capital.
It is also reported that rockets hit Kharkiv. The city recorded 22 explosions during the mass attack. Eight people were injured, and one person died.
More explosions were also reported in Lviv on the morning of December 29, with damage to a residential building reported.
In Dnipro, Russian strikes damaged a maternity hospital, leading to casualties and injuries. A shopping center in the city is also on fire.
Moreover, on the night of December 29, the south of Ukraine was again attacked by Shahed drones. Infrastructure in the Odesa region was hit, and in Odesa itself, an apartment building was damaged by the fragments of a downed drone. In total, the Russians launched 22 Shahed drones, with 18 of them being downed.
