Kyiv honors fallen Azov soldiers slain by Russians in Olenivka with memorial avenue
In Kyiv, a memorial avenue has been constructed in honor of the "Azov" heroes whom the Russians killed in Olenivka in July 2022. The families of the victims are also leading the effort to establish a Day of Remembrance for those who lost their lives in Olenivka, Ukraine.
This is reported by Rubryka, referring to the broadcast of the national telethon.
An alley of memory appeared in Holosiivsky Park. Fifty-three viburnum bushes were planted here – in memory of 53 Azov soldiers who were executed by the occupiers in the camp for prisoners of war in Olenivka.
"We must remember, thanks to whom we are alive today and can walk under a peaceful sky," says Yulia Hryshkevych, the widow of Bohdan Hryshkevych, a soldier executed in Olenivka.
An avenue of memory was laid in Kyiv
Olesia Pynzenyk, the initiator of the creation of the memorial alley and a member of the Kyiv City Council from the "UDAR of Vitaliy Klychko" party, emphasized that the mass killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivka is another terrorist act organized by Russia.
"The memory of each deceased must live on. In alleys, monuments, murals. We must remember them every day," Olesia Pynzenyk is sure.
Relatives of those killed in Olenivka united in a public organization and have already collected signatures for a petition to establish a Day of Remembrance for those killed in Olenivka.
For reference:
During the explosion that occurred on the night of July 29 last year on the territory of the former penal colony in Olenivka, the building in which Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept was destroyed.
According to the Russians, 50 Ukrainian defenders died as a result. Defenders of "Azovstal" were among those detained in the colony. According to intelligence, the Russians had no intention of exchanging Ukrainian prisoners at Olenivka and deliberately executed them to hide the torture and conditions of the prisoners.
