EU Council plans to boost Ukraine's military power at upcoming meeting – Borrell
EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that the EU Council should discuss strengthening Ukraine's armed forces and the bloc's obligations in the security field at the next meeting.

As Borrell noted, Russia carried out the largest missile attack on Ukrainian cities in the last two months, and he emphasized the need to strengthen the Armed Forces, including air defense systems.
"At the Council's next meeting, we will discuss the EU's obligations in the field of security, as well as proposals for increasing our contribution to Ukraine's military capabilities," Borrell said.
As reported, on the morning of December 8, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles. Air defense forces destroyed 14 out of 19 missiles in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv regions.

On November 2, the Council of the European Union decided to provide additional funding for training service members of Ukraine's armed forces.
The High Representative has suggested sanctioning more than 120 individuals and entities due to their involvement in undermining Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Borrell has also recommended the implementation of new bans on imports and exports, as well as measures to strengthen the cap on oil prices and combat any attempts to bypass EU sanctions. The list of potential sanctions includes members of the Russian military, defense, and IT industries, and key economic players. The proposed actions specifically target those responsible for organizing the recent illegal "elections" in occupied Ukrainian territories, those involved in forcibly "re–educating" Ukrainian children, and individuals disseminating false information and propaganda in support of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. The overall goal of these proposals is to fortify the framework for applying sanctions.
