Zelensky calls for global unity against terrorism, highlighting contrasts between Ukraine and Israel's recent events
Speaking via video link at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, President Volodymyr Zelensky said the international community should unite to fight against terrorist organizations and states. He compared the tactics of Hamas during the attack on Israel with the one used by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. However, he noted that a terrorist organization attacked Israel, while a terrorist state attacked Ukraine.
The Guardian reports this.
"Today, our attention is fixed on the Middle East. No one will be able to forget what the terrorists did in Israel. It was thousands of rockets against the civilian population. They shoot people in cars, women, and children who want to flee. We saw it. We saw that the blood flowed through the streets. The terrorists themselves film the atrocities they were proud of. They beat women and kidnap elderly people and children from their homes. We still do not know how many people were captured and killed. They even tried to humiliate and abuse the bodies of the dead. We saw all this in Israel. And we know that Israeli journalists, when they were here in Ukraine, in Bucha, saw the evil that Russia carried. They now see this evil on the territory of their state. The difference is that now Israel has been attacked by a terrorist organization, and a terrorist state has attacked Ukraine," the President of Ukraine emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the essence of this evil is the same. He emphasized that no one will ever forget the attack on Israel.
He noted that the international community should agree to the basic standard of decency – "Do not rape women. Do not kill. Do not consider children as trophies. Do not fill villages and towns with blood. Do not shoot civilians in cars."
Zelensky also pointed to Iran, stressing that "the country cannot say that it had nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine when it continues to sell drones to Russia, and it cannot say that it had nothing to do with the attack on Israel when its officials support it."
"I am sure that, firstly, it is essential – who supported Russian propaganda. Again, the children who were stolen and kept are called trophies by Russian propagandists. Second, Russia and Iran support this. Iran sends Shahed drones to the Russian Federation, saying he is not involved in what is happening in Ukraine. Iran is now supporting what is happening in Israel. How far can this evil go? It can only go as far as we allow it to. So, what we must do now is that our desire for peace exceeds their desire for blood. Such efforts will help restore international order," Zelensky emphasized.
For reference:
It should be noted that early in the morning on October 7, a large number of Hamas militants entered the territory of Israel, taking control of several communities in the south of Israel.
In addition, "as a sign of solidarity" with the Palestinians, the Lebanese "Hezbollah" said it fired rockets and mortars at Israel. At the same time, Israel's defense forces responded with artillery strikes and drones.
According to the latest figures, at least 700 people have died in Israel due to the attack by Hamas.
It also became known that two citizens of Ukraine died in Israel, and measures are being taken to organize the repatriation of the bodies of the dead.
For the first time in 50 years, Israel announced the introduction of martial law. On the night of October 8, Israel's security cabinet voted to officially declare the country at war due to a Hamas rocket attack and militant incursion into the country.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the United States of America would announce support for Israel following the attack by Hamas terrorists.
Israel has now regained control of all areas. Currently, there are no hostilities on its territory. At the same time, it is not excluded that there are still Hamas militants on Israeli territory.
