Fighting in Bakhmut
For many months, Bakhmut remained the epicenter of hostilities in eastern Ukraine. Since the end of May, Ukrainian defenders have intensified offensive operations on the flanks of the wiped-out town.
According to the AFU General Staff, Ukrainian troops continue to conduct offensive operations south of the city of Bakhmut and are holding up on the borders reached.
Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar noted that the occupation forces were trapped and could not leave the town.
We have already reached many prevailing heights, and, in fact, the invaders are trapped there, because they cannot get out of Bakhmut and cannot fully advance through the city itself, the deputy defense minister said.
The commander of the Ground Forces Oleksandr Syrsky, previously explained that Ukrainian forces have all the potential to take Bakhmut into the operational encirclement, which will make it impossible for the occupiers to stay in the city.
Hence he set the task for the military to "squeeze" the village of the neighboring Klishchiivka. According to ISW analysts, Ukrainian forces are successful on the southern flank of the Bakhmut direction.
