North Macedonia joins G7-backed security guarantees for Ukraine

North Macedonia has endorsed security assurances for Ukraine, becoming the 15th country to join the G7 Declaration, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Grateful to North Macedonia for joining the G7 declaration in support of security assurances for Ukraine," the statement says.

Previously, Greece joined the G7 Declaration, contributing to the coalition of Ukraine supporters.

I thank Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski for his personal efforts to strengthen the partnership between our countries, Zelensky added.

Ukraine expects Western allies to provide security assurances to the state. These assurances are needed to prevent Russia from launching further attacks after the war ends and before Ukraine joins the NATO-EU alliance.

During the NATO summit in Vilnius in early July, G7 countries signed a joint declaration, which entails providing long-term support to Ukraine in fields of security and economy.

Previously, 14 countries had already joined the security guarantees, as the President's Office is negotiating with the US and the UK to support the peace plan.
