The German government handed over another batch of military aid to Ukraine for the defense against Russian aggression.

According to an updated list on the federal government website, the new batch includes ten Leopard 1A5 tanks, 20 MG3 machine guns for Leopard 2 tanks, Marder BMP, and one Dachs armored engineering vehicle.

Also among the new military aid are 1,305 155-mm shells, 2,064 155-mm smoke munitions, one bridge system and 12 trailers, four border patrol vehicles, ten ground-based surveillance radars, 16 Zetros trucks, and 100,000 first-aid kits.

What we know about Leopard 1 tank supply

Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands were supposed to send more than 100 Leopard-1 tanks to Ukraine by the spring of 2024, and this year Ukraine will receive only these old 20-25 tanks. Later, it was reported that Denmark and Germany would hand over 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine by the end of May.

As Rubryka reported, in the winter, the German government approved the transfer of 178 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine. At the end of May, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Oleksii Makieiev, announced the shipment of over a hundred Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.

Back in May, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced a joint transfer of 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine with Germany.

These tanks have a 105-mm gun and a twin MG3 7.62 mm machine gun. Until the 1980s, the vehicle was considered Germany's main battle tank. The Leopard 1A5 is the latest production model. It is equipped with a Krupp-Atlas Electronik EMES 18 computerized fire control system with a Carl Zeiss thermal imager, which is based on the system of the modern Leopard 2.
