United to win: Bulgaria delivers 100 armored vehicles to Ukraine
The Bulgarian authorities announced on Thursday that the country transferred 100 armored vehicles to Ukraine as part of its most extensive military aid package.
Euractiv reports that the package includes armored vehicles from the Bulgarian police stockpile, mostly infantry carrier vehicles, as part of Sofia's first official decision to help Kyiv with heavy equipment.
"The Ukrainians will ensure this technique is useful to them," said Ivaylo Mirchev from the governing coalition We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria.
Bulgaria purchased the military equipment provided to Ukraine 40 years ago to carry out the so-called "Renaissance" process, namely the totalitarian regime's attempt to assimilate the Bulgarian Turks by changing their names.
The decision on armored vehicles comes a week after the visit of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to Bulgaria.
Sofia's provision of IFVs was the first military aid package to be made public. Before that, all reports on the transfer of military equipment from Bulgaria to Ukraine were unofficial.
Bulgaria is one of the few NATO member countries with a large number of Soviet weapons and equipment, as well as ammunition for them, used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Rubryka reported that Bulgaria decided to join the EU joint procurement of ammunition for Ukraine.
