The Russian army struck Ukraine's southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia.

Yurii Malashko, the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, reported a hit to an infrastructure facility on the Telegram messaging app.

"S-300 rockets struck an infrastructure facility in a city with thousands of people in the middle of the day. One of the buildings caught fire. Specialists are working to eliminate the consequences of the shelling," Malashko wrote.

He added that the residents of the city were not injured. The head of the region also called on the city's residents to "maintain informational silence not to adjust the occupiers' fire."

Background

Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region has been under constant attacks by Russian forces since the start of the invasion in February 2022. The Russian troops occupied part of the region at the beginning of the full-scale war, including the major cities of Melitopol and Berdianska and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Enerhodar. Since then, they have attacked the region's critical and civilian infrastructure with airstrikes to terrorize the population. In one of the most recent attacks, the Russian forces used seven S-300 rockets to strike the regional capital Zaporizhzhia and its suburbs. In addition to air strikes, Russian forces shell the frontline areas, like the Orikhiv area, daily with artillery. The Ukrainian army continues its counteroffensive in the region. On the Melitopol and Berdiansk fronts, they have already liberated eight settlements.
