Book Lion store and charity fund collects books for displaced Ukrainians
The popular Ukrainian "Book Lion" store and a "Kultura dii" charitable fund started a donation campaign for displaced persons.
These books are collected during the prominent book fair in Kyiv and are aimed at making the new lives of Ukrainians more comforting.
What is the problem?
The war has forced thousands of Ukrainians to flee their homes and seek safety. The capital, in turn, has received hundreds of citizens from the frontline areas and regions that Russia constantly shells.
The IDPs have lost their homes and jobs, as well as their home comfort. Not everyone now has enough money to afford to buy the book they like.
What is the solution?
The "Kultura dii" charitable foundation and the "Book Lion" store launched an initiative to collect books for IDPs during the book fair in Kyiv.
How does it work?
Visitors can bring their own books or buy new ones at the festival and leave them in special baskets located in the donation section.
They can also choose and stick a sticker on the book with a letter for the future owner.
Earlier, the Book Basket initiative was launched at the Book Lion bookstore in Kyiv. Aside from collecting books, the project team plans to hold charitable cultural and reading events at the bookstore to support internally displaced persons.
On June 22, the XI International Book Arsenal Festival was opened in Kyiv, one of the country's largest literary and artistic events, which did not take place last year due to the full-scale war.
This year's Book Arsenal will take place from June 22 to 25. More than 300 events and a fair with the most interesting literary novelties await its guests.
