Ukraine's armed forces make progress on Zaporizhzhia front, liberate village of Piatykhatky
In the course of two weeks of offensive actions in the Berdiansk and Melitopol fronts in Ukraine's southeast, Ukrainian soldiers liberated eight settlements, including Piatykhatky.
Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Defense, Hanna Maliar, reported this in a statement on the Telegram messaging app.
According to her, in the course of two weeks of offensive actions in the Berdiansk and Melitopol directions, units of the Tavria Operational Strategic Grouping liberated eight settlements: Novodarivka, Levadne, Storozheve, Makarivka, Blahodatne, Lobkove, Neskuchne, Pyatykhatky.
The soldiers advanced to the depth of the Russian occupying forces up to 7 km. The liberated area in the south is 113 square km, said Maliar.
During the past week, the Ukrainian army conducted a counteroffensive in several directions in the south. The deputy minister noted that the missile troops and artillery units performed 10,125 fire missions during the week. The diligent work of the Defense Forces of the Tavria region continues, Maliar added.
Background
After several months of defense, the Armed Forces of Ukraine started to use Western armored vehicles and Western-trained units in combat for the first time, which marked the beginning of a counteroffensive against the Russian forces, and which is confirmed by a number of analysts and the military.
Now the Ukrainian army has made tactical successes and tried to probe the weak points of the Russian defense. On June 9, Russian soldiers were reported to leave the first line of defense in the southeastern Zaporozhzhia region.
