Many consumers of six Ukrainian regions are without electricity.

The Ministry of Energy reports in a statement on the Telegram messaging app that the Russian army continues to attack the country's energy infrastructure in the front-line and border territories with the Russian Federation.

"Yesterday, a coal mine in Donetsk was cut off due to shelling," the report says. "Due to damage caused by hostilities, a part of consumers in the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions also remain without electricity."

The Russian artillery shelling damages the energy infrastructure in Ukraine's east, south, and north. At the same time, the energy industry, despite the difficult security situation, continues to restore energy supply.

"In one day, the services restored electricity for 22,500 consumers. Most of them are in Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Donetsk regions," the Ministry of Energy said.

As reported, Ukraine's power system suffered unprecedented damage due to massive nationwide missile and drone attacks on energy facilities that started in October 2022 and continue to this day. The front-line and border regions within the range of Russian artillery have suffered from regular shelling of power and civilian infrastructure. A lot of resources and time are still needed to restore the level of reliability that existed before the massive bombardment.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank conducted a comprehensive Energy Damage Assessment, which revealed that relentless Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure had caused more than $10 billion in damages. As a result, over 12 million people are left with either no electricity or limited access to it. This has also caused disruptions to water supply and heating systems.
