Ukrainian environmentalist group Ekoltava fights food insecurity by spreading free seeds
The Ekoltava public organization has launched the "PLANT!" project and a fundraising platform where you can apply for seeds and donate them to vulnerable Ukrainians.
Last year, with the support of Ukrainian and European philanthropists, more than 3,000 Ukrainians from 9 regions received seed packages from NGO Ekoltava and Victory Gardens. About 300 pensioners, 400 temporarily unemployed Ukrainians, 800 internally displaced persons, about 300 people with disabilities, and large families were provided with packages with a basic set of vegetable seeds.
This year, the organization also expects applications from internally displaced persons, large families, people with disabilities, people who have lost their jobs and cannot buy seeds, and pensioners.
Anyone willing can donate to the fundraising that purchases vegetable seeds and greens to support fellow Ukrainians.
"The platform is developed in two languages, Ukrainian and English. It will show the number of submitted applications and the amount of money already raised that will cover these applications. We have already collected a small part of the amount and started purchasing and sending seeds," says NGO Ekoltava.
To apply for participation or support the project, you need to fill out the registration form at https://posady.org.ua. Applications are accepted until April 30, 2023.
The basic package has seeds of 20-25 vegetable crops. The number of seeds will depend on the number of charity contributions. The goal of the project is 3,000 sets for 6,000 people.
The organization keeps in touch with those who receive seeds to track results and success stories and receives photos and videos of harvested crops and canning.
