Investors are planning to build an enterprise for processing waste paper into pulp, which is to be further used in producing corrugated paper, cardboard, and other materials in Vinnytsia.

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov wrote this on Facebook.

What is the problem?

Over the past 20 years, paper consumption has increased by more than 25%. The annual consumption of office paper requires cutting down 768 million trees.

The amount of deforestation is several times greater than the amount of its natural regeneration. One employee "produces" about 160 kg of paper waste per year. 45% of paper documents are discarded within 24 hours of creation.

The Association for Information and Image Management claims that producing just one ton of paper takes 17 trees, 26,000 liters of water, 4,000 kilowatts of electricity, and 240 liters of fuel. Gases released during paper production have a detrimental effect on the environment and increase the greenhouse effect.

What is the solution?

Vinnytsia Deputy Mayor, Andriy Ocheretnyi, has informed Ukrinform of plans to construct an enterprise for recycling waste paper into paper mass pulp, which can be subsequently utilized for the production of corrugation, cardboard, and other materials.

How does it work?

"Another enterprise of the pulp and paper industry will appear in Vinnytsia. The waste paper will be processed here into paper pulp, from which cardboard containers are made.

Investors are planning to build a plant in the industrial zone on Enerhetychna Street," Morhunov wrote.

The Executive committee of the city council has resolved to grant land use planning stipulations for constructing the facility, with an area of 11,500 square meters.

If the project is executed, it is planned to recruit local residents of Vinnytsia and displaced persons.

The official added that the possibility of developing this investment site appeared after constructing a new road on Honta and Enerhetychna streets, which impeded business activity in this city area.

For reference:

Volunteers from Vinnytsia created an application where residents can swap waste paper, scrap metal, plastic, and glass bottles for linden, sakura, or magnolia seedlings.

The main goal of the project is to encourage people to sort garbage. Everyone can help restore Ukraine's ecology by planting a tree.
