UN secretary-general arrives in Kyiv

On Wednesday, March 8, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in the capital of Ukraine.

His spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told the dpa news agency, the European Pravda reports, citing Tagesschau, that the head of the United Nations Organization arrived in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, at night.

During his third visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the war, the 73-year-old Guterres will meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky to negotiate the continuation of the grain agreement.

It is reported that the Contract for the export of Ukrainian grain through the russian-controlled Black Sea expires on March 18, and the UN is insisting on another extension.

Earlier, the mass media reported that Ukraine had started online negotiations with partners regarding continuing the Black Sea Grain Initiative to ensure that Kyiv can continue supplying grain to world markets.

We will remind you that the initiative was launched through the mediation of the United Nations and Turkey in July last year and extended in November. It expires on March 18 unless an extension is agreed upon.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Sunday that Ankara is making every effort to extend the "grain agreement."

russia has stated that it will agree to the extension of the Black Sea Grain Agreement only if the interests of its agricultural producers are taken into account.
